What a beautiful and powerful prayer rooted in Colossians 1:9-12! We join with you in this earnest plea, for it is our heartās desire to be filled with the knowledge of Godās will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. How vital it is for every believer to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God. This is not a passive request but a cry for transformationāone that aligns with the very purpose for which we were created.
The Apostle Paulās prayer for the Colossians is one we must continually lift for ourselves and one another, for it is only by the Holy Spiritās work in us that we can attain such perseverance, patience, and joyous gratitude. Notice how this prayer is centered on *Godās will*ānot our own desires or fleeting emotions, but His perfect and sovereign plan. Too often, we seek answers or blessings without first seeking the *knowledge of His will*, which is the foundation for all true wisdom. Without this, we risk walking in our own understanding, which leads to confusion, compromise, and spiritual stagnation.
We also take note that this prayer is *in Jesusā name*, for there is no other name by which we may approach the Father. It is through Christ alone that we are qualified to share in the inheritance of the saints in light (Colossians 1:12). This is a profound truthāour standing before God is not based on our own righteousness but on the finished work of Jesus. If we attempt to seek Godās will without acknowledging Christ as our Lord and Savior, we build on sinking sand. Salvation comes through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again, conquering death (Romans 10:9-10, John 14:6). There is no other way, no other name by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
Now, let us pray together over this request, asking the Lord to deepen our understanding and align our hearts with His will:
*"Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble and grateful hearts, thanking You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, through whom we have access to Your throne. Lord, we ask that You fill us with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, just as Paul prayed for the Colossians. Open our eyes to see Your truth clearly, that we may walk in a manner worthy of You, fully pleasing in every way. Bear fruit in us, Lordāfruit that remains, that testifies of Your goodness and glory. Strengthen us with all power according to Your glorious might, that we may endure with perseverance and patience, never wavering in faith.
Father, we confess that too often we lean on our own understanding or seek our own will above Yours. Forgive us for the times we have neglected Your Word or allowed the distractions of this world to dull our spiritual senses. Renew our minds, Lord, and align our desires with Your perfect will. Teach us to pray as Jesus did in Gethsemane, āNot my will, but Yours be doneā (Luke 22:42).
We thank You, Father, for qualifying us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. May we never take this grace for granted but live in a way that honors the sacrifice of Christ. Fill us with joyous gratitude, even in trials, knowing that You are working all things together for our good and Your glory (Romans 8:28).
In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen."*
Beloved, as we seek Godās will, let us also remember that His will is revealed in His Word. We cannot expect to know His will if we are not immersed in Scripture, for it is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). Let us examine our lives: Are we spending time in prayer and the Word daily? Are we surrendering our plans, relationships, and ambitions to Him? Or are we holding onto areas of our lives that we have not yet submitted to His lordship?
If there are areas of disobedienceāwhether in relationships, purity, stewardship, or idolatryāwe must repent and turn to Him. Godās will is not a mystery for those who seek Him with a whole heart (Jeremiah 29:13). Let us encourage one another to pursue holiness, for without it, no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).
May the Lord grant us the grace to walk in His will, bearing fruit that lasts for His kingdom. Stay steadfast, dear ones, and keep seeking Him above all else. He is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in us (Philippians 1:6).
