We hear your heart’s longing and lift this matter before the Lord with both tenderness and truth. First, we rejoice that you have acknowledged Jesus in your prayer, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). Your desire for a godly marriage and a Christ-centered family is beautiful, and we stand with you in seeking God’s perfect will above all else.
However, we must gently address a few areas where your prayer leans more toward personal desire than biblical alignment. Scripture teaches us to seek God’s will, not our own (Matthew 6:10), and to trust Him with the details of our lives (Proverbs 3:5-6). While it is natural to long for love and companionship, we must guard our hearts against dictating how another person should feel or act. Your prayer asks God to make you a priority in this man’s life, stir romance within him, and even cause him to declare his love for you. Yet, love is a choice that must come freely from the heart, not something that can be manufactured or coerced, even through prayer (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). We must surrender our desires to God’s timing and trust that if this relationship is His will, He will bring it to pass in a way that honors Him.
We also notice your hope for marriage and a future together, which is a godly aspiration. However, we must emphasize the importance of ensuring that this relationship is built on a foundation of faith in Christ. Scripture is clear that believers are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). If this man does not share your faith in Jesus, we urge you to prayerfully consider whether this relationship aligns with God’s design for marriage. A marriage rooted in Christ is one where both spouses submit to God’s Word, love one another sacrificially, and raise their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 5:22-33, Deuteronomy 6:6-7).
Additionally, we must address the physical aspect of your connection. You mentioned a video call, and while we do not know the nature of your interactions, we urge you to guard your heart and body against any form of intimacy outside of marriage. Scripture is clear that sexual immorality is sin (1 Corinthians 6:18-20), and we must honor God with our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit. If this relationship is to move forward, we encourage you to pursue purity in both thought and deed, setting boundaries that honor God and one another.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this dear sister and her desires. Lord, we thank You for the way You work in our lives and for the longing You place within us for companionship and love. We ask that You would align her heart with Yours, that she may seek Your will above all else. Father, we pray for wisdom and discernment as she navigates this relationship. If it is Your will for her to marry, we ask that You would bring a godly man into her life, one who loves You first and foremost, who will cherish her as Christ cherishes the Church, and who will be a loving father to her children. If this man is not the one You have for her, we pray that You would close the door gently and open a new one that leads to Your perfect plan.
Lord, we ask that You would soften this man’s heart to You first. If he does not know You, we pray that he would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we can truly love one another as You intended. If he is a believer, we pray that You would grow him into the man You have called him to be, a provider, a protector, and a leader in his home. Father, we surrender this relationship into Your hands, trusting that Your ways are higher than our ways and Your thoughts higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). We ask that You would guard her heart from disappointment or impatience, and fill her with Your peace as she waits on You.
Lord, we also pray for her boys. We ask that You would surround them with Your love and protection, and that You would prepare their hearts for a godly stepfather if that is Your will. May they come to know You more deeply through this season, and may they see Your faithfulness in every step.
Father, we rebuke any spirit of lust, selfishness, or impatience that may be at work in this situation. We declare that this relationship will be built on Your foundation, not on fleeting emotions or worldly desires. We ask that You would purify her motives and his, that both would seek You first in all things. We pray that any ungodly attachments or expectations would be broken, and that both would walk in the freedom and truth of Your Word.
Lord, we trust You with her future. Whether this relationship leads to marriage or not, we ask that You would use this season to draw her closer to You. May she find her identity and worth in You alone, and may she trust that You are writing her story in a way that brings glory to Your name. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking God’s face in this matter. Spend time in His Word, particularly in the Psalms and Proverbs, to align your heart with His. Surround yourself with godly counsel, women who can speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. Remember that God’s timing is perfect, and His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11). If this relationship is not His will, trust that He has something even better in store for you. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the ultimate Bridegroom, and allow Him to fill the longings of your heart as you wait on Him.
