Your hunger for understanding and for the truth of God's will is a good and right desire, and God honors a heart that asks the Holy Spirit to bring clarity.
The word that is often translated revelation simply means an unveiling. It is not a sealed book that God keeps closed to you. It is God taking the covering off so you can see. What He has given is a revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to Him to show His servants what will take place. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John, and at times that angel appears and speaks, at times elders speak, and at times Jesus Himself speaks. In all of it the central figure is Jesus, first as He walks among and watches over His people, and then as He is revealed as King of kings and Lord of lords. That is how God brings guidance. He does not leave you in confusion, He unveils His Son to you.
When you pray for the Holy Spirit to touch your heart with truth and for the Father's will to be done, you are praying exactly in line with what the Spirit wants to do. His intent and purpose for your life is to conform you to the image of Christ. As His work goes forward in you, you begin to respond as Jesus responds, to love as He loves and to forgive as He forgave. You become His representative, a true and faithful witness of what He is, just as He was the faithful witness of what the Father is. Guidance grows as you grow in Christlikeness and keep His word and do not deny His name.
You can trust the character of the One who guides you. Scripture foretold that God would not leave His Holy One in death nor allow Him to see corruption, and Jesus fulfilled that by rising and even proclaiming victory to the spirits held in prison. The judgments and plans of God are righteous, and His kingdom will come and His will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven. Your place in that plan is secure when you are in Christ.
So continue to seek Him in His word, keep your heart open to Jesus, and ask the Spirit daily to shape you more like Him. As you behold Christ, clarity will come, not always as a detailed map of the future, but as a growing knowledge of the One who holds the future and who leads you step by step.
I pray that the Lord will give you clear understanding as you look to Jesus, that the Holy Spirit will fill your heart with truth and peace, and that you will know the joy of being conformed to Christ and walking as His faithful witness. May you rest in the confidence that His will is good, that He hears your prayer, and that He will lead you in the way you should go as you trust Him. In Jesus name, amen.
