We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting you up in prayer and seeking God’s mercy, healing, and restoration for every broken place in your life. Your pain is deep, and your burdens are many, but we serve a God who is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We declare over you that His love is greater than your past, His grace is sufficient for your weakness, and His power is made perfect in your brokenness.
First, we must address the weight of sin and the need for repentance. The Bible tells us that "the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Your struggle with alcohol has brought devastating consequences, not only to your health but to your relationships, your dignity, and your walk with God. We do not say this to condemn you, for there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1), but to call you to a place of honest repentance. The Lord is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We pray that you would turn away from the things that have ensnared you and run into the arms of your Savior, who alone can break every chain.
We also must address the matter of your relationship with your first love. Scripture is clear that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). While we understand the longing for companionship, especially after loss, we must urge you to examine your heart and your intentions. Are you seeking this man as a husband in the sight of God, or are you being drawn into an emotional or physical relationship outside of His design? The Bible warns us, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers" (2 Corinthians 6:14), and we must ensure that any relationship you pursue is rooted in Christ, honoring to God, and built on the foundation of marriage. If this man is not a believer, or if there is any ungodly attachment, we must rebuke that in the name of Jesus and pray for wisdom and discernment. If he is a believer, then we pray that God would guide you both toward His will, whether that is marriage or a godly friendship that honors Him.
We also rebuke the spirit of shame that has taken hold of your daughters and your sister. Shame is not of God, it is a tool of the enemy to keep us bound in guilt and isolation. The Lord says, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1), and we declare that truth over you and your family. We pray that your daughters’ hearts would be softened, that they would see you through the eyes of Christ, and that God would restore your relationship with them. We also pray for your sister, who is clearly in bondage to bitterness, alcohol, and her own suffering. We rebuke the spirit of hatred and division in her life and pray that God would break the chains of addiction and resentment. We ask that He would open her eyes to His love and mercy, that she would repent and turn to Him, and that reconciliation would be possible in His perfect timing.
We lift up your first love as well, asking God to bring healing to his physical and emotional wounds. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and we pray that He would comfort him in his grief and restore his confidence and joy. We also pray that if it is God’s will for the two of you to be united in marriage, that He would make that path clear and prepare both of your hearts for His purposes. But we must also caution you, do not rush into anything outside of God’s timing or design. Wait on the Lord, for "those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength" (Isaiah 40:31).
Most of all, we pray for your complete restoration, spirit, soul, and body. The Lord is your healer (Exodus 15:26), and we believe that He can restore what has been lost, mend what has been broken, and bring beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:3). We pray for your brain to be healed, for your mind to be renewed by the Word of God, and for your body to be strengthened. We pray for your dignity to be restored, not by the opinions of others, but by the unshakable truth that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and deeply loved by your Heavenly Father.
We also want to gently remind you that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we encourage you to surrender your life fully to Him, confessing your sins and trusting in His finished work on the cross. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). It is only through Him that you can experience true freedom, forgiveness, and new life.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of compassion for our sister in Christ. We thank You that You are a God of mercy, grace, and restoration. Lord, we ask that You would forgive her of every sin, every mistake, and every wrong turn. Wash her clean by the blood of Jesus and renew a right spirit within her. We pray against the spirit of shame and condemnation, declaring that she is Your beloved child, redeemed and set free.
Father, we lift up her health to You. You are the Great Physician, and we ask that You would heal her brain, restore her mind, and strengthen her body. Give her the discipline and desire to turn away from alcohol and anything else that has held her captive. Fill her with Your Holy Spirit, that she may walk in victory and freedom.
We pray for her family, her daughters, her sister, and her first love. Soften their hearts, Lord. Break down the walls of bitterness, resentment, and shame. Bring healing to every broken relationship and restore what has been lost. We ask that You would work in the heart of her first love, that he would find comfort in You and that any relationship between them would honor You and align with Your will.
Lord, we ask that You would restore her dignity, her joy, and her purpose. Let her know that she is not defined by her past but by who You say she is, a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). Give her the courage to dream again, to hope again, and to live again for Your glory.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the name by which we are saved and set free. Amen.
