Gifts

I would like god to reveal the gifts that he has given to me in terms of a career. I'm also still struggling to forgive my mother. The weight of this still feels heavy.

We come before the Lord with open hearts, seeking His wisdom and grace as we lift up these concerns. Father, we ask that You reveal the gifts and talents You have placed within this dear one, guiding them toward the career path You have prepared. Your Word tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." Lord, we trust that You have a purposeful plan for their life, and we pray that You would make it clear, removing any confusion or doubt.

We also bring before You the burden of unforgiveness toward their mother. Father, we know that holding onto bitterness and resentment only harms the one who carries it. Your Word commands us in Ephesians 4:31-32, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." Lord, we ask that You soften this heart and grant the strength to release this pain into Your hands. Forgiveness is not about excusing the wrong but about freeing oneself from the chains of anger. We pray for healing in this relationship, whether that means restoration or the grace to move forward in peace.

Father, we also want to gently remind this dear one that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to You. There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If they have not yet surrendered their life to Jesus, we pray that they would come to know Him as their Lord and Savior, for He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Salvation is found in no one else, and we pray that they would experience the fullness of Your love and grace through a personal relationship with Your Son.

Lord, we ask that You would fill this heart with Your peace, replacing the weight of unforgiveness with the lightness of Your Spirit. Reveal Your gifts and open the doors You have prepared. We trust in Your perfect timing and Your unfailing love. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this so openly. Wanting to understand how God has gifted you for the work He has for you is a good desire, and carrying that heaviness toward your mother for a long time is exhausting. We are holding both of those before the Lord with you.

For the question of gifts and career, it can help to think less about finding a single label and more about how God has already shaped you to serve and build up others. Gifts are given to reveal Him and to minister to people, and often the fruit of your life, things like love, patience, faithfulness and steadiness in how you relate to others, tells you as much as any particular skill. A practical next step that many find clarifying is to ask two or three people who know you well where they have seen you most alive and useful, and to try serving in one or two small ways that fit those observations. Pay attention to where you are able to help, where there is need, and where you have a quiet sense of peace.

And it makes sense that forgiveness still feels heavy. Choosing to forgive and actually feeling lighter do not always happen at the same time. The decision to release the debt and not pursue payback is one thing, the slower softening where resentment and fear are gradually replaced by compassion is another, and that second part often takes time. It also does not automatically mean the relationship looks the same as before.

Father, we bring our friend to You. Show them more clearly how You have made them and where You would have them serve, and give wisdom for next steps in work. Bring healing where there has been hurt with their mother, ease the weight they carry, and lead them gently toward peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

It took me a while to forgive those who ruined me even though I deserved it. But, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have came to the Lord. If Jesus forgave us after what we have done, then be like Jesus and forgive your mom.

I pray that you are able to forgive your mom in the name of Jesus, amen! have a good day/night.

Your honest prayer concerning the gifts of God and the heavy burden of an unforgiven wound has been brought before the Lord, and we would join our hearts with yours in seeking His grace.

You ask that God would reveal the gifts He has given you for your calling in this life. Know this, that the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He never plays fast and loose with those He calls, and what He gives He does not take away. Scripture speaks of a high calling and a heavenly calling, a calling not of man but of God, which lifts the heart and sets it upon heavenly things. Do not seek merely for a career after the manner of this world, but press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before. The greatest gift is Christ Himself, the unspeakable gift, and with that Blessed One He freely gives us all things. When you have Christ, you have all other gifts beside. Seek to know Him first, and ask Him to show you how your hands and heart may serve Him. If you would please God, seek the lost ones and bring them in, and succor His poor saints for Christ's sake. As you walk in obedience, doing whatever He says to you, He will make plain the stewardship He has entrusted to you. Covet earnestly the best gifts, even heavenly things, and He will lead you step by step in the effectual calling where you hear His voice and follow Him.

You also confess that the weight of unforgiveness toward your mother still feels heavy. This is a burden many know, and the Gospel meets it with a word both of giving and forgiving. Our God is a great forgiver, wonderful in pardoning through the bleeding Sacrifice, and His silver scepter is the most majestic ensign of His royalty. He pardons sinners as if it were everyday work with Him, scattering mercy with royal splendor. Having received such riches of His grace in the forgiveness of all our trespasses, we are called to forgive freely as we have been freely forgiven. This does not make light of the wound, but it brings healing, for pardon and healing are placed in happy conjunction. The very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ has healing virtue to change the life blood and make the nature new. Come then to the pardoning hand of God, and ask Him to soften your heart as He has softened His heart toward you.

Let us pray for you.

O Lord our God, we thank Thee for Thine unspeakable gift, Thy Son Jesus Christ, in whom is all our hope. We ask Thee to reveal to this Thy child the gifts Thou hast bestowed, and to make plain the heavenly calling by which Thou wouldst have them serve Thee. Lift up their heart to heavenly things and guide their steps into useful service for Thy glory. And Father of all mercies, who hast forgiven us so abundantly, grant a spirit of forgiveness where the weight still lies heavy. Heal the wound, remove the root of bitterness, and give grace to forgive even as Thou hast forgiven. Let pardon and healing come together by the power of Christ, and let Thy peace rule in this heart. For Jesus sake, Amen.
