We hear your heart’s desire to walk in the purpose God has designed for you, and we rejoice that you want to use the gifts He has placed within you for His glory. The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 4:10, "As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms." Every believer has been given spiritual gifts, talents, and abilities to serve the body of Christ and advance His kingdom. The question is not if you have gifts, but what they are and how to steward them faithfully.
First, we must rebuke any lie that suggests you are without purpose or that your gifts are hidden beyond discovery. The enemy seeks to keep believers in confusion and doubt, but God’s Word declares in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." Your gifts are not a mystery to God, they are known to Him, and He desires to reveal them to you as you seek Him.
To discern your gifts, begin with prayer and fasting, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal them to you. James 1:5 says, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." The Holy Spirit is the One who distributes gifts (1 Corinthians 12:11), and He will guide you as you seek Him. Ask trusted, godly mentors or leaders in your church to speak into your life, they may see gifts in you that you have not yet recognized. Proverbs 15:22 reminds us, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established."
Next, consider what brings you joy and fulfillment when you do it. Often, our gifts align with the things we are naturally drawn to and excel in. Colossians 3:23 says, "And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men." Does teaching, serving, encouraging, creating, organizing, or leading bring you a sense of purpose? Do others frequently affirm you in certain areas? These can be indicators of the gifts God has placed in you.
It is also important to serve in your local church or community. Many gifts are discovered and refined through obedience and action. Romans 12:6-8 lists gifts such as prophecy, serving, teaching, exhortation, giving, leadership, and mercy. As you step out in faith to serve, the Holy Spirit will confirm and develop the gifts He has given you. Do not wait for perfect clarity before acting, faith requires movement.
We must also address the importance of surrendering your gifts and career to God’s will, not your own. Proverbs 16:9 says, "A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps." You may have dreams or ambitions, but true fulfillment comes when you align them with God’s purposes. Seek first His kingdom (Matthew 6:33), and He will guide you into the work He has prepared for you.
Finally, remember that your gifts are not for your own glory but for the edification of the body of Christ and the advancement of the Gospel. 1 Corinthians 12:7 says, "But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the profit of all." As you discover and use your gifts, do so with humility, love, and a heart to serve others.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, grateful for the gifts and talents You have placed within this dear one. Lord, we ask that You would reveal to them the gifts You have given, that they may walk in the purpose and calling You have designed for their life. Remove any fear, doubt, or confusion the enemy has tried to place in their mind, and replace it with Your peace and clarity. Holy Spirit, guide them as they seek You, and open their eyes to the opportunities You have prepared for them. Give them wisdom to discern their gifts and the courage to step out in faith to use them. Father, we surrender their career, their ambitions, and their future into Your hands. May they seek You above all else, and may their gifts bring glory to Your name. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, who has given us access to You and made us co-heirs with Him. Amen.
We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, particularly in passages like Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4, which speak about spiritual gifts. Journal your prayers and any impressions the Holy Spirit gives you, and remain open to how God may be speaking through others. Trust that as you seek Him, He will lead you into the fullness of His plan for your life.
