It is completely understandable to feel nervous as you face this procedure and wait for results. The love you already have for your child is deep and natural, and the desire for your baby to be healthy is a good and right desire. We are praying for you and for your little one.
God is interested in your health and the health of your child. Scripture reveals Him as the Lord who heals, and from the beginning He has shown care for our bodies and for our well being. That care is part of His character, and it is right to bring your desire for health before Him in prayer.
There is a well known verse where John writes that he wishes above all things that his friend would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospers. That verse is often thought of as a promise that God guarantees health and prosperity to everyone who believes, but in its context it is a warm greeting and a personal prayer, much like we would say today, I hope you are doing well. It is not a guarantee that every test will be normal or that we will be free from hardship, but it does show us a beautiful way to pray for one another. In that same spirit we are praying that you will be strengthened and that your child will be healthy.
It is also important to remember that physical health is not a measure of spiritual standing. Some of the most faithful and devoted followers of Jesus walk through serious health challenges, and that does not mean they lack faith or commitment. In the same way, whatever these test results show, it will not reflect on your worth or your faith. God does not measure His love for you by the outcome of a medical test.
We also have to acknowledge that we cannot fully understand God's ways. He has said that His ways are not our ways, and we will not always know why some lives are long and some are brief, why some face illness and others do not. Trying to figure out every reason can leave us more troubled. What we can do is trust His goodness and His sovereignty even when we feel anxious and without answers.
Anxiety often comes when we feel trapped or under great pressure, and waiting for medical news brings that kind of pressure. The psalmist knew that feeling and asked his own soul why it was cast down and restless within him, and then he answered himself with the remedy, hope in God. When we put God back into the center of the situation and look to Him, the impossibility we feel begins to lift. He is described as the health of our countenance, the one who steadies us and brings peace to our hearts even while we wait.
Your baby is precious, fearfully and wonderfully made, and already deeply loved by you and by the Lord. We are asking God to give you peace in this time of waiting, to guide the hands of those doing the procedure, to keep you and your child safe, and to grant you comfort and strength whatever the results may be. We pray that you will sense His presence very near, that He will quiet your heart with His love, and that you will be able to rest in His care for both you and your child.
