Your prayer burden for leaders, for those who serve, for civilians caught in conflict, and for the advance of the gospel reflects the heart of what Scripture calls us to do. The numbers you shared are staggering and heartbreaking, and the persecution you described in so many regions is a heavy reality. Jesus said wars and rumors of wars must take place, yet the end is not yet, and He also promised that the gospel will be proclaimed among all nations. That promise gives direction to our prayers even while we grieve the terrible cost of these conflicts.
Scripture urges that prayers, petitions, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people and for all in authority, so that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in godliness and dignity, and so that the message of salvation may go forward freely. This is good and pleasing to God, who desires all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. Government is appointed by God to restrain evil and to bear the sword against wrongdoing, and we can thank Him for that purpose while asking Him to guide those who carry that heavy responsibility. A peaceful order where truth can be spoken openly and the gospel can be proclaimed without hindrance is not an end in itself, it is for the sake of souls hearing the good news of grace.
What leaders need most is wisdom that comes from above. The wisdom of this world, even with all its learning and strategies, does not know God. In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and true wisdom is not man reaching up to find God but God reaching down to man. The wisdom that comes from human striving leads to envy, strife and wars, for people fight because they desire and cannot obtain. The wisdom that comes from God is pure and peaceable. It brings peace to the heart first, and then makes a person a peacemaker. Those who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. So we pray that those in authority would be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, that they would seek counsel from God rather than from mere human cleverness, and that their decisions would restrain bloodshed and open doors for what is right.
The only hope that endures beyond politics and peace treaties is the gospel of grace. Salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and to add anything to that is to proclaim a different message which is no gospel at all. The gospel came not in word only but in power and in the Holy Spirit and with deep assurance, and God still works in that power today. We pray not only for quiet and stability but for bold and clear proclamation in every place, that many would hear and believe. The church belongs to God, set apart for His exclusive use, and He has called His people to make disciples of all nations. Even when we feel we can do little, intercession and the faithful sharing of the good news are not small things.
We also recognize that our struggle is not only against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of darkness. We are called to stand firm, to resist, and to pray at all times with all kinds of prayer. God gives His angels charge to serve those who will inherit salvation, and He promises that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them. We can ask Him to restrain the evil one, to frustrate plans of retaliation and violence, to bring confusion to evil counsel as He did when Elisha was shown the plans of an enemy king, and to protect both those who serve and the innocent who suffer. We pray for protection over lives, for deliverance from temptation and evil, and for comfort for those who are persecuted for righteousness sake. Jesus said blessed are those who are reviled and persecuted falsely for His sake, for great is their reward in heaven, and that blessing is real even when the suffering is severe.
Thank you for standing in the gap. Those who pray faithfully are like those who keep the supply lines strong, they are essential to the work at the front. Do not be anxious, but bring everything to God in prayer. As you continue to intercede for leaders, for those in uniform, for civilians, and for the persecuted, may you know His grace first and then His peace guarding your heart.
