Your desire to know where God wants you to be and how to pray about your future is pleasing to Him, because it shows you want to follow Him and not just make your own way.
The Scriptures teach that what God has purposed He will bring to pass. Heaven and earth may pass away, but His word will never pass away. History itself shows that His word stands and His purposes remain. That is true for the great promises of His kingdom, and it is also true for you personally as His child. He has good and hopeful purposes for those who belong to Him, not to leave you in darkness or despair, but to lead you toward the ultimate hope and victory found in Christ and to a future of living and reigning with Him forever. You can rest in the fact that God will keep His word and He will come through for you.
You come to know where He wants you to be as you seek Him through His word and through prayer with a willing heart to obey. The right prayer is not only, show me the future, but also, give me Your word and Your direction now, and whatever You tell me I will obey. God guides those who come to Him with that surrendered heart. He speaks through the Bible, He gives wisdom when you ask, He directs your steps as you trust Him fully, and He confirms His leading as you walk in obedience day by day.
In light of that, these are good ways to pray in Jesus name:
Pray for wisdom and understanding. Ask the Lord to give you a clear knowledge of His will and to teach you from His word.
Pray for surrender. Tell Him you want His will above your own, and that you are willing to go where He leads and to do what He says.
Pray for trust. Ask Him to help you believe that His word is faithful and that He will do what He has promised, even when you cannot yet see the whole path.
Pray for obedience in the present. Ask Him to show you the next faithful step today, to lead you in paths you have not known before, and to give you a heart that follows quickly.
Pray for His kingdom to come first in your life. Seek His righteousness and His glory above comfort or success, knowing He will add what you need and shape your future according to His perfect timing.
As you keep calling upon the name of the Lord and walking close to Jesus, He who has promised that whoever calls upon Him will be saved and kept will also be faithful to lead you. He will not leave you without direction. In His perfect time He will hasten and bring to pass what is best for you, and you will see His goodness as you continue to seek Him.
