Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray that God would providentially end a friendship that I began with someone overseas months ago where I was trying to financially help them but the situation has seemingly led to overdependence on me on their end, has become overwhelming and is just concerning for multiple reasons and I no longer think I can help this person. Thank you.

We hear your heart and the weight of this situation, and we stand with you in seeking the Lord’s wisdom and intervention. It is clear that your intentions were rooted in kindness and a desire to reflect Christ’s love through generosity, but we also recognize the burden of overdependence and the strain it has placed on you. Scripture reminds us in 2 Thessalonians 3:10, "For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: 'If anyone will not work, neither let him eat.'" While this verse speaks to a specific context, the principle of healthy boundaries and stewardship applies here. Financial support, when misaligned with godly wisdom, can sometimes enable patterns that hinder growth rather than foster it.

We must also rebuke any spirit of manipulation or entitlement that may be at work in this dynamic, for the enemy seeks to distort relationships and drain God’s people of their peace and resources. Proverbs 22:7 warns, "The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender." While this doesn’t condemn generosity, it underscores the importance of wisdom in how we give. It seems the Lord may be leading you to step back so that this individual can seek Him directly for provision and direction, rather than relying on you as an intermediary.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, acknowledging that every good and perfect gift comes from You. Lord, we lift up this situation to You, asking for Your providential hand to intervene. We pray for clarity and peace for our brother/sister as they navigate this difficult decision. Give them the courage to set boundaries that honor You and reflect Your wisdom. We ask that You would gently close this door of financial support in a way that does not bring harm but instead redirects this individual to seek You as their ultimate Provider. Father, we rebuke any spirit of dependency or entitlement that does not align with Your will, and we declare that this person’s trust will be firmly placed in You alone.

Lord, we also pray for healing and restoration where there may have been unintended harm. If there has been enabling or codependency, we ask for Your forgiveness and correction. Teach us all to give and receive in ways that glorify You and build up Your kingdom. We trust that You are working all things together for good, even when the path is unclear. May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus, the name above all names, through whom we have access to Your throne of grace. Amen.

We encourage you to release this burden to the Lord, trusting that He sees your heart and will guide you in His perfect timing. Remember, it is not your responsibility to carry what God never intended for you to bear. Galatians 6:5 reminds us, "For each one will bear his own load." This is not a call to isolation but a reminder that each of us must answer to God for how we steward our lives. As you step back, continue to pray for this individual, that they would encounter the love and provision of Christ in fresh ways. If the Lord leads, you may gently communicate your decision with grace, pointing them to Him as their source. You are not abandoning them; you are entrusting them to the One who cares for them most deeply.

We can hear the weight behind your words, you began with a genuine desire to help, and now the relationship has become draining and unsustainable. That’s a hard place to sit, especially when you care about the person on the other side.

It’s not unkind to recognize when assistance is no longer helping. Sometimes the most loving thing we can do is step back so the other person can reconnect with their own God‑given responsibility and resourcefulness. Healthy boundaries don’t mean we stop caring; they simply define what belongs to us and what doesn’t. Saying “I can’t do this any longer” isn’t a failure, it’s a truthful description of your limits, and truth serves everyone better than silent burnout.

A gentle, clear message may be your next step: let them know the help you’ve been providing is ending, with as much compassion as you can muster, and no need to over‑explain. You don’t have to solve what comes next for them. That belongs in God’s hands, not yours. If you worry their practical needs will go unmet, you might point them toward a local church or reputable agency near them, without signing yourself back on, but only if that feels genuinely possible and wise.

Let’s pray this way together:

Lord Jesus, we bring this heavy, tangled situation to You. Grant our friend wisdom and steady nerves to speak honestly and release what was never meant to be carried alone. Protect the person overseas, provide for their real needs, and draw them closer to You as the only true and lasting source of security. Quiet any false guilt, and plant peace in its place. In Your name we ask it, amen.

You speak of a friendship that began with a desire to show kindness, to extend a helping hand across the seas, yet now it has grown into a heavy chain of overdependence, a snare to your own soul. This is no small matter, for true friendship, as we learn from our Master, is a reciprocal thing, there cannot be friendship if it is all on one side. A kindness that breeds an unholy reliance upon the creature rather than the Creator has strayed from the path of godly help. It is well that you now cry out for guidance, for naturally we do not like being guided, but it is a work of Grace upon the heart that makes a man say with the Psalmist, "You shall guide me with Your counsel."

Consider that among the great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide is this: avoid everything that is evil. A connection that overwhelms you and draws another into sinful dependence can no longer be considered a means of true help. If you have become, even unintentionally, a crutch that keeps a soul from leaning upon the Lord, then what follows is a mournful duty. We may think we render aid, but in this way, the testimony of the children of God is rendered invalid, and we help to comfort sinners in their sins. The help you sought to give has not brought the light of the Gospel; it has brought a blight upon your own spirit. I have sometimes been the means in God’s hand of helping a man who suffered with a desponding spirit, but the help I have rendered has cost me dearly. Hours after, I have been myself depressed and I have felt an inability to shake it off.

Therefore, bow with submission to the will of God, for by that very fact you are furnished with unerring guidance. If the Lord has made it plain that you can no longer help this person, then remember the words of the king in the siege of Samaria: "If the Lord does not help you, where can I find help for you?" It is not yours to prop up a soul with a golden hand that hides the nail-pierced hand of Christ. You must shake off the dust of a misguided pity and learn that haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life. The most useful and necessary thing you can now do is to obey your Master in this, for those who make a profession of friendship and do not do what He commands are the worst enemies He has! Let the sundering, then, be with undeviating correctness, trusting that He has servants everywhere to do the bidding of His love. To ease the ache of this parting, take up the better work of prayer, a mighty wrestling for that foreign soul, and leave the burden upon Him who is able to bear it. Unless Jesus Christ is your shield and help, you are undone; but you have Him now, and He is enough both for you and for the one you must entrust entirely to His care.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You see plainly that this friendship has become, not a bond of virtue, but a chain of dependence. You began with a desire to help, yet now the situation overwhelms you. Remember what Scripture teaches: not eating and drinking makes friendship, nor even the sharing of money. Robbers and murderers have such associations, for they are held together by common gain. When the table is retrenched, such friendships vanish as quickly as they came. This person clings to you not for godliness but for your purse; their affection is for what you give, not for your soul’s good. True friendship is forged only upon the love of God and the pursuit of virtue. If this association draws you away from peace, burdens your spirit, and fosters overdependence, it has ceased to be a friendship at all, it is a snare.

You ask whether God would providentially end it. Indeed, His providence often permits us to see the fruit of a thing so we may act with discernment. The Apostle prays that our love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment, so we may approve the things that are excellent. To love someone is not to be harmed by the friendship. If your right eye causes you to stumble, you are commanded to pluck it out and cast it from you. You are not required to sustain a bond that leads to spiritual stumbling or that enables reckless dependence. Your help, offered in good will, has become a weight you cannot bear, and likely does this person no lasting good, for it teaches reliance on a human source rather than on the God who cares for the grass of the field. Let this be your sign: withdraw from the entanglement, not with cruelty but with the grief of one who sees a friendship must end for the sake of both souls. Release this burden into God’s providential care, for He watches even over those who seem small, and He will raise up what is needful for them in time. Afterward, labor to build friendships that rest on the unshakable foundation of godliness, bonds that endure every change and lead you together toward the day of Christ, sincere and without offense.

It takes real wisdom to recognize when a relationship meant to help has shifted into something unhealthy, and courage to ask God to intervene and bring it to an end. What began as compassion can sometimes become codependence, and when you sense that line has been crossed, it is right to pay attention and act.

There is a deeper principle at work here that is worth prayerfully examining. The state of our relationship with God is always the foundation for every other relationship we have. When that primary connection is vibrant and intimate, our other relationships tend to fall into their proper place. When they become disordered or overwhelming, it is often a sign that we need to look first at our own walk with the Lord. Ask yourself honestly: is my relationship with Jesus right now deeper, richer, and more enthusiastic than it has been in the past? Or has something cooled or become more like a routine? If your love for Him is not growing, then you are in a place of real spiritual vulnerability.

God does not want a distant or legal relationship with you. He wants a loving, intimate one where you rest in His love and serve others from that overflow rather than from mere obligation. When you try to carry someone else’s burdens as if you were their ultimate provider, you step into a weight you were never meant to bear alone. That kind of help can easily become a false imitation of the dependence only God can truly sustain. No human connection can satisfy the deep thirst of a soul for the living God.

Let this difficult situation turn your heart back to your first love. Reconnect with the beauty of knowing Christ and being known by Him. As you do, you will find He gives the clarity to know when to step away and the grace to trust Him with the other person’s future. He is able to order what has become tangled, but your part begins with making sure your own heart is held fast in a loving, vital relationship with Him.

We are so grateful you entrusted this heavy burden to us and allowed us to stand with you before the throne of grace. Our hearts have been lifting this situation daily, asking the Lord to guide every step and to bring His perfect resolution—not only for the sake of the friendship, but for the protection and peace of both you and this person overseas.

Father, we continue to pray that You would providentially close this chapter in a way that honors You and aligns with Your will. Give our brother/sister wisdom to know how to communicate with love and clarity, and grant the other person discernment to accept what must be said. We ask that You break any unhealthy dependence and replace it with Your provision, comfort, and hope. If this connection is meant to continue in a different form, we pray You would redeem it for Your glory. If it is time to part ways, we ask for healing, understanding, and closure that leads to growth for both souls.

If You have already moved in this situation since the request was shared, we would love to hear a praise report so we can rejoice together. If the weight still lingers, please let us know so we can keep interceding on your behalf. You are not alone in this.

May the Lord surround you with His peace, strengthen you with His truth, and fill you with the assurance that He sees every concern and holds every outcome in His hands. We continue to pray in Jesus’ mighty name.
