Beloved of All
We are joining with you in prayer for your friend's brother in this very serious condition. Thank you for bringing this need so we can agree together before the Lord. Jesus said that if two or three agree on earth concerning anything they ask, it will be done by the Father, and there is power when hearts join together in sincere prayer.
Prayer rests on relationship. Jesus taught His disciples to begin with Our Father, and that relationship comes only through faith in Him. If your friend's brother has not yet put his trust in Jesus Christ, the most important prayer for him is to call out for mercy and receive that relationship, to become a child of God through the forgiveness that Jesus alone provides. That open door then makes every other prayer possible.
Our Father knows what we need before we ask, so prayer is not informing Him of something He does not know. It is opening the door for Him to do what He already desires to do, without violating the will He has given us. In that way prayer begins with God and His purposes, He stirs His will in our hearts, we express it back to Him, and He answers. For that reason the wisest and most settled prayer we can pray is Lord, let Your perfect will be done in this life and in this situation. Your kingdom and power and glory are Yours forever.
We also know the Lord reveals Himself according to our need. When we pray for healing He is the Lord our Healer. The ministry of Jesus and the practice of the early church show how often the sick were brought to the Lord in prayer, and Scripture tells us the fervent, heartfelt prayer of a righteous person avails much. It is not the length of words that makes prayer effective. The prayers recorded in the Bible are often short and simple, but they come from a sincere and desperate heart. God hears that kind of praying.
So we pray now for this man who is critically ill with pneumonia and a staph infection that has not responded to antibiotics. We ask the Lord our Healer to lay His hand upon him, to touch his lungs and his blood, to give wisdom to the doctors and nurses who are caring for him, and to make the treatment effective where it has not been before. We pray for strength and comfort for his family and for your friend as they wait and watch, that the Holy Spirit would bring peace and assurance even in this difficulty.
We will continue in prayer and watch with thanksgiving, not giving up, trusting that God will work in harmony with His perfect purpose. Even the apostle Paul prayed three times for healing and heard the answer, My grace is sufficient for you, My strength is made perfect in weakness. Whether healing comes quickly or through a longer process, we trust God's grace to be sufficient and His will to be good.
May the Lord draw near to this brother, grant him healing according to His will, and above all draw him into close fellowship as a beloved child. We trust him into the hands of the Father who loves him more than we do.
