Your concern for your friend is deeply moving, and it is right to bring such cares before the Lord and the church. I will certainly join you in praying for this single parent and their child, and for you as you seek to help.
Hardships can leave us feeling we have little to offer, but Scripture reminds us that God’s provision is not measured by our own resources. In the early church, believers facing severe trials and deep poverty still gave generously to support others in need. Their joy overflowed, not because their circumstances were easy, but because their trust was in the One who owns all things. Pray that your friend would know this same joy, a confidence that the Father knows their needs and is faithful to supply.
Your friend’s desire to open a business is praiseworthy, but I would gently encourage them to examine their motives. Jesus, as a young boy, declared, “I must be about my Father’s business.” That was the driving purpose of His life, not merely an obligation to be performed, but a consuming desire to do the will of God. Whatever work we undertake, whether raising children or starting a new venture, it must flow from that same heart. A business built on integrity and honesty honors the Lord and becomes a witness in the community. Conversely, a reputation for shady practices dishonors His name, no matter how successful the enterprise appears.
Single parenthood often brings painful reminders of broken relationships, and children can suffer deeply from the sins of their parents. Yet the high calling of a parent is to teach the ways of God to their children, talking of Him as they sit at home, walk along the road, lie down, and rise up. This spiritual nurture is far more precious than any financial help we could send. Pray that your friend will lean on the Lord for wisdom and grace in this sacred task, and that the child will grow up seeing God’s faithfulness, even in hard times.
I know you have already sacrificed to assist, and now your own setbacks have limited what you can do. Do not be discouraged. Your prayers and sincere love are a powerful offering. God sometimes allows our own insufficiency so that we learn to depend entirely on Him. He even left room in the law for Himself to work miracles, reminding us that He is not bound by human limitations. He can open doors for your friend that no bank loan could ever match.
