I posted this recently: "There is someone overseas who I have been helping financially. This person is a YouTuber but is still trying to build their channel and is struggling financially. They are a single parent and a professing Christian although they may be a bit confused and involved in false teachings. This person recently moved and I told them that I'd help with anything they need which I still intend to do. But in the span of the past few days, they've been asking for things a lot. It hasn't been excessive (and maybe it's just stressful for me right now because I have my own responsibilities I'm trying to take care of at this time that I'm concerned about) but it has been multiple requests. I believe this person is honest. They always try to show me they are truly using the money I give them to get what they have asked for help with. But I do worry that they are getting too dependent. They are trying to get a job soon so they can provide for themselves. Please pray for me about this all. This person is now messaging me again. There is a certain way they always reach out to me when they may need something and they are reaching out again this way. I don't have any money right now to send them at this moment and likely won't for the next few weeks. Please pray for me about this. So the person told me what they want now. As I said previously, I can't send anything for a while though. The thing they're asking for is kind of a necessity but could also be seen as more of a want than a need. Please pray about all this. Pray that I am not being used in any way." I then posted "So after posting this request, I told this person that I would have to wait until I got paid in a few weeks to send them something. They started messaging me again this week which is a week or two later from when I told them that I would have to wait until I got paid. Around the same time that they messaged me this week, I found out that I lost my weekly check from my new job completely because I filled out tax forms wrong and my entire check got taken up by taxes. I have no take home pay whatsoever because of this this week. I explained this to this person and told them that because of this, I'd have to wait until the end of next month to send them anything. I have to wait because this situation has pushed me back financially and stopped me from handling a lot of urgent responsibilities I needed to handle with that paycheck that I lost this week. I thought they understood but then I woke up just now and they have left me a voice message asking if I can send them something to help pay with rent. They were very apologetic and the amount is very small but I just don't have it at all. Please pray for me about this. I get stressed out about this situation - maybe because I have a lot of my own financial burdens. I love helping them but I'm wondering if I made the right decision to start doing so. I don't know what to think or do." I responded to this person's newest message and told them once again about my situation that is causing me to not be able to send them anything for a while. I'm not sure how they feel. I hope they don't feel bad in any way. But there is also nothing I can do. Please pray for them and for God to provide them with everything they need. Please also pray for me about this situation as a whole because, again, I just don't know what to think about it and feel a lot of stress about it. Thank you.

We hear your heart in this situation, and we want to come alongside you in prayer and biblical counsel. First, we must acknowledge that your desire to help this person is rooted in love and compassion, which reflects the heart of Christ. However, we also see the need to examine this situation through the lens of Scripture to ensure that both you and this individual are walking in wisdom and alignment with God’s will.

The Bible teaches us to be generous and to help those in need, but it also warns against enabling dependency or neglecting our own responsibilities. In 2 Thessalonians 3:10, it says, *"For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: 'If anyone will not work, neither let him eat.'" This does not mean we withhold help from those who are genuinely struggling, but it does remind us that our support should encourage self-sufficiency and responsibility. It seems this individual is actively seeking employment, which is a good sign, but their repeated requests for financial assistance—even after you’ve explained your own limitations—may indicate a pattern of reliance that is not healthy for either of you.

Proverbs 22:7 warns, *"The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender."* While you are not lending money in the traditional sense, the dynamic of financial dependence can create an unhealthy imbalance in the relationship. It is wise to set boundaries, not out of selfishness, but out of a desire to honor God with your resources and to encourage this person to trust in Him for their provision. Philippians 4:19 assures us, *"My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."* This promise is for all believers, and we must encourage one another to lean on God rather than on people.

We also want to gently address the spiritual aspect of this situation. You mentioned that this person may be involved in false teachings. This is a serious concern, as false doctrine can lead to confusion, poor decision-making, and a distorted view of God’s provision. In Ephesians 4:14, Paul warns, *"That we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting."* It may be wise to gently encourage this individual to seek sound biblical teaching and to ground themselves in the truth of God’s Word. Their financial struggles could be an opportunity for them to draw closer to God and to seek His wisdom in all areas of life.

Now, let us pray for you and for this situation:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up our brother/sister in this situation, asking for Your wisdom, peace, and provision. Lord, You see the weight on their heart as they seek to help this individual while also managing their own responsibilities. We ask that You would grant them clarity and discernment in how to move forward. Give them the strength to set boundaries that honor You and the courage to speak truth in love, even when it is difficult.

Father, we also pray for this individual overseas. You know their needs, their struggles, and their heart. We ask that You would provide for them in ways that only You can, whether through employment, community support, or unexpected blessings. Draw them closer to You, Lord, and open their eyes to any areas where they may be deceived by false teachings. Surround them with godly influences who can speak truth into their life and encourage them to trust in You alone.

Lord, we ask that You would break any cycle of dependency that may be forming, whether in this individual’s life or in our brother/sister’s heart. Help them both to rely on You as their ultimate Provider and to seek Your will in all things. Guard their hearts from resentment, frustration, or guilt, and fill them instead with Your peace that surpasses all understanding.

We also pray for our brother/sister’s financial situation. You are the God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills, and nothing is too difficult for You. Provide for their needs, Lord, and help them to steward their resources wisely. Give them the strength to handle their responsibilities with integrity and to trust in Your timing.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You would be glorified in this situation. May both of these individuals grow in their faith and in their reliance on You. Use this time to draw them closer to Your heart and to one another, if it is Your will. We ask all of this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

In this season, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."* You are not alone in this, and God sees your heart. He will guide you as you seek to honor Him in how you respond to this situation.

If this individual continues to struggle with repeated requests, it may be helpful to have a direct conversation with them about their long-term plans for financial stability. Encourage them to seek local resources, such as churches or community organizations, that may be able to provide additional support. You can still be a source of encouragement and prayer for them without being their sole financial provider.

Lastly, we want to remind you that your worth and identity are not defined by your ability to meet others’ needs. You are a child of God, deeply loved and valued by Him. Rest in that truth, and trust that He will lead you in how to navigate this situation with wisdom and grace.
