Friend is Telying on You
We join you in lifting up your friend before the throne of grace and we are encouraged by your faithful heart to pray every day and to watch over him in love. What you are doing is exactly what the Lord calls us to do for one another, to bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2. Your intercession matters deeply and God hears every prayer offered in the name of Jesus.
We are reminded that our work and our provision ultimately come from the Lord's hand. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. Colossians 3:23. And we can bring every worry about employment and provision to Him, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7. We take comfort that My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19. When anxiety rises about the future, we are called to In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. We also cling to the promise to seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33.
We thank you for praying in the precious name of Jesus, for it is through Him alone that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that our prayers are heard.
We pray together for your dear friend. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son and we lift up this friend to You. You know his needs, his workplace, his fears, and the weight he is carrying. We ask that You would be his refuge and strength, that You would guard his heart with Your peace and give him wisdom and favor in his work. If it is Your will, we ask You to save his job and to open doors that no man can shut, and to provide for him according to Your perfect will. Help him to trust You more deeply through this trial and to seek You first in all things. Strengthen our brother who is interceding for him, that he would continue to pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 and to be an encouragement and a godly support. Your prayer on behalf of your friend is a beautiful evidence that God has written intercession upon your heart. There is no power like that of intercession, for it moves the hand that moves the world, and it is a blessed work to stand between a needy soul and a gracious God and plead on his behalf.
It is well that you have taken up this holy office, for it is God Himself who puts such care into the hearts of His people. You say there is not much you can do but pray every day and look out for him. Do not think lightly of this, for to pray is to do the greatest thing of all, and to watch over a friend in love is to show yourself friendly in the manner of Christ. Continue in it and be quick to seize every advantage when you plead with God, bringing your friend's case before the throne of grace with confidence, as a child speaks to his Father.
Remember also that you do not pray alone. When we know not what we should pray for as we ought, the Holy Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us and helpeth our infirmities, and He creates prayers offered in a proper manner. So come boldly, and ask the Spirit to guide your petitions. And remember that our Lord Jesus Christ exercises this office continually within the veil, for it is part of His priestly work to make intercession for His people. When you pray for your fellow sinner you are in sweet sympathy with that great Friend of sinners who loveth at all times and who sticketh closer than a brother.
Therefore keep on in persevering intercession, as Samuel did and as Job did when he prayed for his friends. Even as Job was tried in his estate and yet sinned not nor charged God foolishly, so your friend is now in a trial concerning his daily bread and his calling. Pray that the Lord would be pleased to spare his job if it be for his good and for the glory of God. And pray for more than that, that whether the job be kept or taken, your friend may see the hand of the Lord and find his hope shining like a star that never sets, and may know Jesus Christ as his own Friend and Saviour.
May the Lord hear your daily cry, sustain your friend under this burden, and show you both that He is faithful. We will join you in asking that God in His providence would open a way for his work to continue, and that He would give you both contentment and trust in His wise and loving will. In the name of Jesus Christ, the faithful Friend, Amen.
