Silas
Beloved of All
Your love for your daughter and your pain over what has taken hold of her life come through with great clarity, and it is right to bring this burden to the Lord in prayer. You are seeing what Scripture shows so plainly, that when a relationship is formed outside of God's design it does not bring peace but brings jealousy, rivalry, exhaustion and division. Living together as if married when there is no covenant of marriage, and treating that arrangement as marriage, is not what God has blessed, and it often leaves exactly the kind of hardship, financial strain and chaos you are describing.
The deepest need here is not only a change of circumstances but a restoration of her relationship with God. The first commandments concern our relationship with Him, and when that relationship is not right, other relationships cannot be right either. Many struggles in human relationships can be traced back to a cooled or broken fellowship with the Lord. God does not want a distant or merely ritual connection with your daughter. He has made a way through Jesus Christ alone to adopt her into His own family, to be her Father, and to bring her into a close, loving fellowship where she knows she is His child. When that love is alive, the heart hungers again for righteousness and for what is pure and true. Pray that she would return to that first love for Jesus, where she once found joy in His Word and in fellowship with those who love Him. That is the foundation from which all other relationships begin to find their proper balance.
It is also clear why you feel such urgency about the influences around her. Scripture warns that it is difficult to live in the midst of a polluted and corrupt way of life and not be touched by it. Even a family that has been raised in the ways of the Lord can suffer when a daughter or son remains in an environment that normalizes what God calls wrong. You have seen this in her weariness, her forgetfulness, the coldness and harsh words that are not like the gracious young woman you know, and in the way she has pulled away from her supportive family and church community. To be isolated from those who truly care for her makes it much easier to be controlled and confused.
God is a God who calls His people back to family and back to Himself. As He once told Jacob to return to the land of his fathers and to his family with the promise that He would be with him, so the Lord still calls a wandering heart back to the safety and wisdom of home and of a faithful community. Your daughter does not need the approval of another family to have worth or belonging. If she is in Christ she already belongs to God, and He has placed her in a loving family that raised her to know Him. Pray that the Holy Spirit will break the hold of every manipulative voice and make her see clearly that she does not belong to this young man or to his household.
Continue to pray specifically as you have been, that God would expose every selfish and divisive motive, frustrate every scheme to control and isolate her, and block every word spoken against her. Pray that He would soften her heart to receive conviction, open her eyes to see this young man not as a husband or spiritual leader or provider, for he is not acting as one, but as a stumbling block to her walk with God, and grant her courage to step out of this bondage without regret. Pray that she will stop carrying responsibilities that are not hers to bear, that she will have wisdom to protect what God has entrusted to her and to no longer use credit or family resources to sustain a lifestyle that is harming her.
For your own part, keep walking in love and truth. Do not affirm what God calls wrong or ask Him to bless it as if it were marriage, but do not cease to love your daughter. Keep the door of home and of prayer open, speak the truth gently when she will hear it, set healthy and clear boundaries around finances and respect, and refuse to be drawn into gossip or mockery in return. Entrust both your daughter and this young man and his mother to the Lord, asking that they too would come to repentance and that enabling would cease. The Lord can touch a brother who has become an enemy, as He did when Jacob was reconciled to Esau after years of hatred, and He can redeem what is broken.
May the Lord cover you and your children with His protection, for no weapon formed against those who trust in Him will finally prosper. May He restore peace, respect, unity and freedom in your home, heal what has been wounded, and reignite in your daughter a hunger for His presence. Pray that when she visits she would be guarded from hatred and manipulation, that she would remember who she is as a daughter of the Most High, and that she would find the courage to walk into His light, back into fellowship with God and with the family and community who love her. And as you wait, ask the Lord to keep your own heart strengthened in His love, looking to Him as your Father who hears and who is able to do what is impossible for us.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we ask for mercy and deliverance for this daughter. Draw her back to Yourself, restore to her the joy of being Your child, break every chain that binds her, and lead her out of darkness into Your light. Give her wisdom, self worth rooted in You, and courage to leave what is unhealthy and ungodly. Guard her work, her mind and her heart, bring her back to a loving walk with You and to the safety of family and faithful friends, and in Your time provide for her the godly future You have prepared. Amen.
