Fornication, adultery, restoration

Kensem

Beloved of All
Please lift a special someone (hidden for privacy reasons) to the throne of God in the name of Jesus.
This person is said to be a born-again Christian, but he distanced himself from God due to fornication and therefore married an adulterous woman.
Let us pray in Jesus name that this person accepts God's will regarding their broken relationship, and understands that, as a Christian, they cannot be unequally yoked, but must marry someone who is also a Christian.

Let's pray based on these verses:
Hosea 2:19-23
[19] “I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, In lovingkindness and mercy;
[20] I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, And you shall know the Lord.
[21] “It shall come to pass in that day That I will answer,” says the Lord; “I will answer the heavens, And they shall answer the earth.
[22] The earth shall answer With grain, With new wine, And with oil; They shall answer Jezreel.
[23] Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’”

Please continue to pray...Keep praying that this brother has unweavering faith in Jesus Christ and the Father's holy plan for his life...AMEN
LET GOD BE GLORIFIED!!

Please continue to pray in Jesus' name that this brother drives the adulterous and godless woman out of his house/flat. Do not persecute those who pray for him and encourage him to follow God. To God be the glory who is Holy forever.

Please continue to pray for this brother. The woman is utterly evil and frustrated and has angry outbursts when she hears the word of God. They can't all stay in the house at the same time for too long; they take it in turns. She is an utterly opposing and aggressive woman; please pray that the brother is saved from her presence and they are separated forever if God wills it... in Jesus' name, amen.

We join you in lifting this hidden brother to the throne of grace in the name of Jesus, and we thank you for bringing him before the Lord with such persistence and burden. We hear your concern for his restoration and your desire that he walk again in close fellowship with God and in unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and the Father's holy plan for his life.

We must speak the truth in love about what has happened. The Word tells us to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18. Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the bed undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers, Hebrews 13:4. Fornication before marriage and adultery within marriage are sin before a holy God, and when a born again believer chooses that path he does distance himself from fellowship with God, though he does not lose the Lord's pursuit of him. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. There is forgiveness and restoration only through repentance and through the name of Jesus, for there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. We are thankful you have prayed in Jesus' name, for it is only by Him we have access to the Father.

You are right to be concerned that a Christian must not be unequally yoked. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship do righteousness and iniquity have, 2 Corinthians 6:14. Courtship should always be with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman as God designed. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate, Matthew 19:6. This is why we must also speak with care about marriage itself. Once a man and a woman have entered into marriage, God sees them as one flesh and calls them to honor that covenant. We cannot simply pray for a marriage to be broken out of anger or frustration, even when there is deep pain and conflict. The Lord says He hates divorce, Malachi 2:16, yet Jesus also taught about the hardness of heart and the seriousness of sexual immorality, Matthew 19:9, and the apostle Paul teaches that if an unbelieving spouse consents to live with the believer, the believer should not leave, but if the unbelieving departs, let them depart, 1 Corinthians 7:12-15. We do not know all the details of this household, but we do know God calls us not to hate the person but to hate the sin, to love our enemies and pray for those who oppose us, and to seek peace and holiness and godly counsel.

We gently rebuke the language of calling this woman utterly evil and desiring to drive her out in a spirit of hostility. We understand the anguish when the Word of God is met with angry outbursts and aggression, and when living together becomes unbearable and you must take turns remaining in the home. That kind of strife and opposing spirit is not of God and may require wise pastoral help, boundaries, and even physical separation for safety and for peace while seeking the Lord's will. But our prayer must be for God's will above our own, for conviction, repentance, and salvation for both souls. The Lord may will reconciliation through repentance, or He may allow separation if she continues to reject Christ and chooses to depart, but we must leave that judgment to Him and not persecute those who pray and encourage this brother to follow God.

The verses you shared from Hosea give us hope for restoration. I will betroth you to me forever, Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in loving kindness and in mercy, I will even betroth you to me in faithfulness, and you shall know Yahweh, Hosea 2:19-20, and I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy, and I will tell those who were not my people, You are my people, and they will say, You are my God, Hosea 2:23. This is the heart of God toward His wayward people, to betroth again in faithfulness, to show mercy, to call us His own.

We pray together now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift this brother to You. You know his name, his struggle, his sin, and his sorrow. Lord, bring him to deep repentance for fornication and for any way he has departed from You. Cleanse him by the blood of Jesus, restore to him the joy of Your salvation, and give him unwavering faith to trust Your holy plan for his life, even when it is painful. Teach him to accept Your will regarding this broken relationship and to seek to honor marriage as You designed it, a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman. Give him wisdom, courage, and godly counsel from mature believers and pastors, that he may not act in anger but in righteousness, justice, lovingkindness and mercy.

Father, we also lift this woman to You. You know her heart and her resistance to Your Word. We pray for her salvation, that the angry and opposing spirit would be broken and that she would encounter Jesus and be made new. Have mercy on her who has not obtained mercy. If it is Your will for this marriage to be reconciled through mutual repentance and faith, we pray for healing and holiness in that home. If it is Your will, because of continued unbelief, adultery, and hardness of heart, that they be separated, we pray You would make Your will clear, provide a peaceful and safe way, and guard all in that household from harm. Let there be no persecution of those who pray and speak Your truth, but let Your peace rule. We ask that You work all things together for good for those who love You, Romans 8:28. Glorify Yourself in this situation, let this brother know You as Lord, and establish him in a walk that seeks a godly marriage only with a fellow believer if You lead him to marriage in the future. In the holy and mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We hear how heavy this burden has been for you, and we are grateful you have kept bringing this brother before the Lord with such persistence. Carrying concern for someone you care about, especially when you see his faith wavering and his home filled with tension, is wearying, and we want to stand with you in prayer.

What stood out to us is your central longing, that he would have unwavering faith in Jesus and trust the Father's plan for his life. That is the truest good we can ask for anyone, and we join you there. When a home feels unsafe because of angry outbursts and people having to take turns just to have peace, wisdom and safety matter a great deal. If you have ongoing contact with him, one gentle next step could be encouraging him to talk regularly with a trusted pastor or mature believer in his area, someone who can walk with him face to face, listen well, and help him seek God's direction with accountability and care.

Father, we lift this brother to You and ask You to draw him close to Jesus, to strengthen his faith and give him clarity to seek Your will above all else. Bring peace and safety into that home, guard each person there with dignity, and give wisdom to all involved for right next steps. Sustain the one praying, too, with hope and rest in You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your petition has been brought before the Lord with care and with sorrow, and we have weighed it in the light of the Word of God.

We hear your concern for this brother who, though professing to be born again, has walked in fornication and has entered into a marriage that is now marked by strife and unholiness. The Scriptures are plain that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that the union of the body belongs only within that covenant. Where these bounds have been broken, the call of God is not to a carnal repentance which is of the flesh and after the manner of the sinful nature, but to that true repentance which is the work of the Spirit of God and which gives God glory. Scales and balances are set before us, and we must ask, has our repentance led us to look out of self to Christ, and to Christ only.

You have asked that we pray for his separation from this woman with bitterness of spirit, and you have spoken of her as utterly evil and opposed to the things of God. Yet the Lord does not drive men to repentance as a slave is driven with a whip, but draws them. The goodness of God leads to repentance. A repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant must be joined with that faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart. The one purges the soul from dead works, the other fills it with living works. They are inseparable. If this brother is indeed in Christ, he needs not a fleeting sorrow that fades when the judgment is past, but a repentance unto life, a practical repentance that yields works meet for repentance and that lasts, for repentance lives as long as faith lives.

You cite the command, Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers. That precept is holy and wise, and it is to be obeyed before the vows of marriage are taken. Once the covenant is made, the Word gives other counsel, that the believing husband is not to put away his wife, for God may yet use his faithful walk to win her. We cannot therefore ask the Lord to bless anger or to prosper a driving out in wrath. We can and must ask Him to work true repentance in both souls, to give a broken spirit and a contrite heart which He will not despise, and to grant remission of sins through the name of Jesus, for repentance and remission are joined together and are to be preached in His name among all nations.

Remember David, who after his great sin found that there was no sacrifice appointed under the Law for adultery, and could only cast himself upon mercy, saying, The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. Remember Peter, whose fall was not a continuance for months without repentance as David's was, but a sudden sin followed by a speedy and bitter repentance when the Lord turned and looked upon him. That look severed Peter from the crowd and broke his heart, and the same Lord who restored Peter by a threefold charge still restores those who weep and abhor their past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it.

We will pray then not as you have phrased it in heat, but as the Spirit teaches us to pray.

We pray that this brother, if he be Christ's, may receive repentance as the gift of the Holy Ghost, that Christ who is exalted to give both repentance and remission may grant it to him, that his sorrow may be a godly sorrow which needs not to be repented of, and that his faith may be unwavering in Jesus Christ and in the Father's holy plan. We pray that he may know the betrothal spoken of by Hosea, I will betroth thee unto me forever in righteousness and in justice, in lovingkindness and in mercy, and that he shall know the Lord. We pray also for the woman of whom you speak, that the Lord who says, I will have mercy on her that had not obtained mercy, and will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people, may have mercy upon her, soften her heart that is now hardened and angry at the Word, and lead her also to repentance, for Christ came not to call the righteous but sinners.

We pray that this household may not be a place of angry outbursts and of taking turns to avoid one another, but that peace may come through holiness, that sin may be forsaken, that vows may be honoured as God honours covenant, and that if separation be required by the Lord for the sake of holiness and safety, it may be sought not in malice but in prayer, in counsel with godly pastors, and in submission to the Word, with no persecution of those who seek to help.

Let us not seek an iron yoke of remorse which comes when the easy yoke of repentance is rejected, but let us seek that sweet sister Repentance who keeps company with faith all the way to the gates of pearl, who makes a rainbow with her tears of grief for sin and her glances of hope at the love of Christ and His finished work.

May the Lord answer according to His mercy, and may all glory be given unto Him who is holy forever. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have heard your request and we join you in seeking the Lord with a desire that He be glorified and that His holy will be done in this brother's life.

We pray in the name of Jesus Christ alone, through whom we have forgiveness and access to the Father, that this brother would return to the Lord with a whole heart and walk again in close fellowship with Him. Scripture teaches that sin defiles the soul and that both fornication and adultery are sins against God Himself, not only against people, and that they wound the one who commits them. We ask God to grant true repentance, not only sorrow or tears, but a turning away from every impurity and a turning toward Christ in faith and obedience.

We pray that God would establish this brother in unwavering faith, that he would know the Lord more deeply and be kept in righteousness, justice, lovingkindness and mercy. As you quoted from Hosea, God betroths His people to Himself forever in faithfulness, and says I will have mercy and I will say to those who were not My people, You are My people. We ask that this brother would know that mercy anew, that he would taste the heavenly gift and be renewed in the Holy Spirit, and that his life would answer to God's call with faithfulness.

Concerning his relationship, we pray according to God's revealed will. God calls His people to holiness and teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that sexual union belongs within that covenant alone. He also calls believers not to be unequally yoked, but to seek a spouse who shares faith in Christ. We do not ask God to bless any union that is outside His design. Instead we ask Him to bring clear conviction where there is fornication or adultery, to give light to see sin as God sees it, and to give strength to flee from it.

If this man is living in sexual sin outside of a lawful marriage, we pray that God in His mercy would separate him from that sin and give him grace to live in purity, whether that means a godly separation from a sinful cohabitation or, if he is already bound in marriage, a call to honor the covenant he has made before God with fidelity and truth. The Lord permits separation only for the cause of sexual immorality, and even then His heart is for repentance and reconciliation where possible. So we pray not from anger toward any person, but for God's perfect will to be done, for the salvation and repentance of both souls, and for peace in that household.

We also pray for the woman you mentioned. Even when there is opposition and angry outbursts at the word of God, we ask the Lord to have mercy upon her also, to open her eyes, to soften her heart, and to draw her to repentance and faith if she does not know Him. We ask that God would remove what is harmful and preserve what is holy, and that He would guard all in that home from strife and give wisdom to take turns living in peace only as a temporary measure while seeking godly counsel.

We encourage this brother to walk in humility, for pride also defiles and destroys every excellence of the soul, and to seek the help of faithful pastors and mature believers in his local church for accountability, counsel, and prayer. May he be rooted in the Word, steadfast in prayer and fasting, and careful to guard his heart.

We will continue to pray that the Father's holy plan for his life would be fulfilled, that Christ would be his confidence, and that whatever remains would be ordered in a way that honors God and leads to lasting holiness. To God be the glory who is holy forever. Amen.

Your burden for this brother is taken seriously and your desire to see him restored to close fellowship with the Lord is right and good. It is right to pray that he will have unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and that he will embrace the Father's holy plan for his life.

Scripture is clear that the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. Fornication and adultery are not casual failures. The call of God is to flee sexual sin, because the person who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, which is meant to be an instrument for the Lord. Jesus taught that this sin begins in the heart, when a person lusts and desires what God has not given. That is why true restoration must begin inside, with a heart that no longer takes pleasure in what God calls sin, but turns from it.

That is also why the word of God warns so plainly not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. This is not limited only to marriage, but it certainly includes marriage, and it applies to any close binding together where two lives must pull together. When a believer is yoked to an unbeliever, the yoke is always unequal. They do not follow the same rule of life and they do not live by the same ethic. What will trouble the conscience of the believer will not trouble the unbeliever. Light and darkness have no real fellowship, righteousness and unrighteousness do not blend, and like oil and water they remain separate. Many believe their case is the exception because of strong feelings or love, and think the other person will change, but love alone does not make an unequal yoke equal. The wise path is to heed the warning and not enter that yoke, and to come out from what is unclean and be separate unto the Lord, who promises to receive and to be a Father to those who walk separate.

In a spiritual sense, unfaithfulness to God is also likened to adultery. When a heart turns to other gods or other loves and gives to them what belongs to Christ, it commits spiritual fornication. God desires a faithful people betrothed to Him in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy and faithfulness, that they may truly know the Lord. The promise you cited in Hosea speaks of this mercy. God says He will have mercy on those who had not obtained mercy and will say to those who were not His people, You are My people, and they shall say, You are my God. That is the hope of restoration. God is able to show mercy and to make a people His own again.

For this brother, restoration will mean more than sorrow over painful consequences. There is a sorrow that is only of the world and brings death, where a person is sorry that he was caught or that life has become hard, but does not truly turn. Godly sorrow works repentance that leads to salvation and does not need to be regretted, because it brings a real change. True repentance is not just tears over a lost blessing or bitter anger over what has happened. It is a change of mind and life that bears fruit, a turning away from the old life and a new walk. The evidence of it is that a person does not go back and do the same thing again, but flees what is wrong and pursues what pleases the Lord.

So we join you in praying that God will grant this brother godly sorrow that leads to true repentance and a changed life, that he will flee sexual immorality and honor the Lord with his body, that he will accept God's will for his relationships and understand that as a Christian he is called to not be unequally yoked but if he marries to marry in the Lord. We pray that he will have clear, unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, that he will know the Lord's lovingkindness and mercy and faithfulness, and that he will be strengthened to come out from every unclean and unequal binding and to walk separate and holy before God.

We also pray for the woman in the house. Where there is anger at the word of God and an opposing spirit, there is great need for mercy. We pray that God would work in her heart as well, that she would hear the gospel and be saved, and that the Lord would bring peace and holiness into that home according to His perfect will. If it is His will that they be separated, we pray He would make that clear and bring it about in a way that honors Him and protects all involved, without hatred or persecution toward any person, but with a desire for holiness and for every person to be reconciled to God through Christ.

May the Lord answer according to His mercy, establish this brother in righteousness and faithfulness, and be glorified as the Holy One who restores and makes His people His own. In the name of Jesus we ask for His will to be done and for His grace to lead this brother into a life that is wholly for the Lord.
