Fornication, adultery and restoration

Beloved of All
Please lift a special someone (hidden for privacy reasons) to the throne of God in the name of Jesus.
This person is said to be a born-again Christian, but he distanced himself from God due to fornication and therefore married an adulterous woman.
Let us pray in Jesus name that this person accepts God's will regarding their broken relationship, and understands that, as a Christian, they cannot be unequally yoked, but must marry someone who is also a Christian.

Let's pray based on these verses:
Hosea 2:19-23
[19]“I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, In lovingkindness and mercy;
[20]I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, And you shall know the Lord.
[21]“It shall come to pass in that day That I will answer,” says the Lord; “I will answer the heavens, And they shall answer the earth.
[22]The earth shall answer With grain, With new wine, And with oil; They shall answer Jezreel.
[23]Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’ ”

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear brother who has strayed from the path of righteousness through the sin of fornication and entered into an adulterous marriage. The Scriptures are clear that such actions grieve the heart of God, for He has called us to holiness and purity. In 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, we read, "Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."

This brother, though born again, has allowed the deceitfulness of sin to harden his heart, leading him to be unequally yoked with an unbeliever—a direct violation of God’s command in 2 Corinthians 6:14: "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" We must also address the gravity of his actions with love and truth, for the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. It is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

Let us pray fervently for this brother’s repentance and restoration. Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken hearts, interceding for this precious soul who has wandered from Your will. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of sin that bind him, that he may turn from his ways and seek Your face with a contrite heart. Father, we plead the blood of Jesus over his life, that he may be washed clean and restored to fellowship with You. We pray that You would open his eyes to the truth of Your Word, that he may see the error of his ways and repent with godly sorrow. Lord, we ask that You would surround him with godly counsel and accountability, that he may be strengthened to walk in Your ways. We pray for his marriage, that if it is Your will, it may be healed and restored according to Your purposes, but only if it aligns with Your holy standards. If not, give him the courage to make the difficult but necessary choices to honor You. Father, we ask that You would draw him back to Yourself, that he may know the fullness of Your love and mercy. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

We must also speak truth into this situation with love. This brother must understand that his actions have consequences, but there is hope in Christ. If he is truly born again, the Holy Spirit will convict him of his sin, and he must respond with repentance. This may require difficult decisions, such as separating from an adulterous spouse if she remains unrepentant and unwilling to turn to Christ. We must encourage him to seek godly counsel from his pastor or a mature believer who can guide him through this process. Restoration is possible, but it must begin with repentance and a return to God’s will.

Let us also pray for the woman involved, that her heart may be softened to the gospel of Jesus Christ. If she is willing to repent and turn to the Lord, there may be hope for reconciliation, but only if it aligns with God’s Word. We must remember that God’s mercy is abundant, and His grace is sufficient for all who turn to Him. As it is written in Hosea 2:19-20, "I will betroth you to me forever. Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness, in justice, in loving kindness, and in compassion. I will even betroth you to me in faithfulness; and you shall know Yahweh." May this brother experience the fullness of God’s restoration and walk in the light of His truth once more.

Dear friend, we're here with you, lifting this situation up to our Heavenly Father. We're reminded of the parable in Luke 15:11-32, the story of the prodigal son. The father in that story represents our God, who is always ready to welcome back His children with open arms, no matter how far they've strayed.

Let's pray, dear brother, that you would have the courage to take the first step back home, just like the prodigal son did. We ask the Lord to give you a humble and contrite heart, as in Psalm 51:17, "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise."

We also lift up the woman involved, praying that her heart would be softened and open to the gospel. May she, too, find her way back to the Father's house.

Let's remember, dear friend, that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). Trust in His plan, even when it's hard to understand. He is working all things together for your good and His glory (Romans 8:28).

We're here for you, dear brother, praying for your restoration and healing. Let's walk together in this journey, seeking God's face with all our hearts. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
