Fornication, adultery and restoration

Beloved of All
Please lift a special someone (hidden for privacy reasons) to the throne of God in the name of Jesus.
This person is said to be a born-again Christian, but he distanced himself from God due to fornication and therefore married an adulterous woman.
Let us pray in Jesus name that this person accepts God's will regarding their broken relationship, and understands that, as a Christian, they cannot be unequally yoked, but must marry someone who is also a Christian.

Let's pray based on these verses:
Hosea 2:19-23
[19] “I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, In lovingkindness and mercy;
[20] I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, And you shall know the Lord.
[21] “It shall come to pass in that day That I will answer,” says the Lord; “I will answer the heavens, And they shall answer the earth.
[22] The earth shall answer With grain, With new wine, And with oil; They shall answer Jezreel.
[23] Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’”

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear one who has strayed from the path of righteousness. It grieves us deeply to hear of a brother in Christ who has distanced himself from God through the sin of fornication and entered into an adulterous marriage. The Word of God is clear that such unions do not align with His holy design, for we read in 2 Corinthians 6:14-15, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness? What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever?"

The Lord’s heart is for restoration, as we see in the beautiful passage from Hosea that you shared. God’s mercy is boundless, and His desire is to betroth His people to Himself in righteousness, justice, lovingkindness, and mercy. Yet we must also acknowledge the seriousness of sin and the need for repentance. Fornication and adultery are not merely mistakes—they are grievous offenses against God’s holy covenant. The Scriptures warn us in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."

We must also address the unequally yoked marriage this brother has entered into. The Lord’s command is clear: believers are to marry only in the Lord (1 Corinthians 7:39). To be bound to an unbeliever is to invite spiritual conflict and heartache, for how can two walk together unless they are agreed (Amos 3:3)? This is not a matter of judgment but of obedience to God’s perfect will for His children.

Let us pray fervently for this brother, that the Holy Spirit would convict his heart and lead him to true repentance. May he turn away from this sin and seek the Lord’s face with a broken and contrite spirit, for the Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves those who have a crushed spirit (Psalm 34:18). We pray that he would understand the gravity of his actions and the need to align his life with God’s Word, even if it requires difficult and painful steps. Restoration is possible, but it must begin with repentance and a return to the Lord.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of compassion and concern for this brother who has strayed. We ask that You would draw him back to Yourself with cords of lovingkindness. Break the hardness of his heart, Lord, and let him see the sin that has entangled him. Grant him the courage to repent and turn away from this adulterous relationship, for You are faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Help him to understand that Your ways are higher than our ways, and Your thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). Give him the strength to walk in obedience, even when it is difficult, and surround him with godly counsel and accountability.

We also pray for the woman involved in this relationship. If she is not a believer, we ask that You would open her heart to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let her see her need for a Savior and turn to You in repentance and faith. If she claims to be a Christian, we pray that she too would recognize the sin in this union and seek Your forgiveness and restoration.

Lord, we know that You are a God of second chances, and Your mercy endures forever. We trust in Your promise that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We ask that You would restore this brother to a right relationship with You and guide him into a marriage that honors You, should that be Your will for his life. May he find a godly spouse who will walk with him in faith, love, and obedience to Your Word.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can approach Your throne and the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Without Jesus, there is no access to the Father, no forgiveness of sins, and no hope of eternal life. We declare that Jesus is Lord, and we submit to His authority and His Word in this situation. May Your will be done, and may Your name be glorified in all things. Amen.

We stand with you, dear friend, in intercession for this brother who has wandered from the path of righteousness. It's a heavy burden to bear, knowing that a fellow believer has entered into a union that God does not bless. Yet, we find comfort in the promise of restoration, as seen in Hosea. God's heart is for His people to return to Him, and we trust in His mercy and grace.

We must also acknowledge the seriousness of fornication and adultery. They are not mere mistakes but grievous sins against God's holy covenant. We're reminded of the apostle Paul's words in Ephesians 5:3-5, "But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God."

We pray for this brother, that the Holy Spirit would convict him and lead him to true repentance. May he turn away from this sin and seek the Lord's face with a broken and contrite spirit. We also pray for the woman involved, that she would recognize the sin in this union and seek God's forgiveness and restoration.

Lord, we come before You with heavy hearts, asking that You would draw this brother back to Yourself with cords of lovingkindness. Break the hardness of his heart, Lord, and let him see the sin that has entangled him. Grant him the courage to repent and turn away from this adulterous relationship, for You are faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We trust in Your promise, Lord, that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We ask that You would restore this brother to a right relationship with You and guide him into a marriage that honors You, should that be Your will for his life.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

**Father,**
You see this person—a born-again Christian who has distanced himself through fornication and is now unequally yoked in marriage to an adulterous woman. **Please bring him back to Your will.** Open his eyes to understand that he cannot be bound to someone who does not share his faith in Christ. Let him accept Your truth, even if it means the brokenness of this relationship.

**“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness?”** (2 Corinthians 6:14)

Lord, just as You said through Hosea: *“I will betroth you to Me forever in righteousness, justice, lovingkindness, mercy, and faithfulness”* (Hosea 2:19-20). **Betroth this man to Yourself again.** Restore his first love. Have mercy on him. Call him back as Your people, and let him say, “You are my God.”

**“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”** (1 John 1:9)

Break the soul tie to this adulterous woman. Lead him to a godly spouse who loves You. **In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.**
