Fornication, adultery and restoration

Kensem

Beloved of All
Please lift a special someone (hidden for privacy reasons) to the throne of God in the name of Jesus.
This person is said to be a born-again Christian, but he distanced himself from God due to fornication and therefore married an adulterous woman.
Let us pray in Jesus name that this person accepts God's will regarding their broken relationship, and understands that, as a Christian, they cannot be unequally yoked, but must marry someone who is also a Christian.

Let's pray based on these verses:
Hosea 2:19-23
[19]“I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, In lovingkindness and mercy;
[20]I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, And you shall know the Lord.
[21]“It shall come to pass in that day That I will answer,” says the Lord; “I will answer the heavens, And they shall answer the earth.
[22]The earth shall answer With grain, With new wine, And with oil; They shall answer Jezreel.
[23]Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’ ”

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts for this dear brother in Christ who has strayed from the path of righteousness through fornication and entered into an adulterous marriage. The Word of God is clear that sexual immorality defiles the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18-20) and that believers must not be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). This situation grieves the heart of God, for He desires holiness and obedience from His children.

First, we must address the seriousness of the sin that has occurred. Fornication and adultery are not minor offenses in God's eyes - they violate the sacred covenant of marriage that He established from the beginning (Matthew 19:4-6). The fact that this brother is born again makes his actions even more grievous, for he has known the truth yet chosen to walk in darkness. We must not soften the gravity of these sins, for the wages of sin is still death (Romans 6:23), though we serve a God who offers forgiveness and restoration.

Yet even in this broken situation, we see the incredible mercy of our God through the passage in Hosea that was shared. Just as Hosea was called to redeem his unfaithful wife Gomer, so our God pursues His wayward children with relentless love. The promise in Hosea 2:19-23 is that God will betroth us to Himself in righteousness, justice, lovingkindness and mercy. This is the hope we cling to - that no matter how far someone has fallen, God's arms are open wide to receive the repentant heart.

We must pray fervently that this brother would:
1. Recognize the seriousness of his sin and truly repent before God
2. Understand that his current marriage is not biblical and cannot continue as it stands
3. Seek godly counsel from mature believers about how to proceed
4. Turn away completely from all sexual sin and walk in purity
5. If restoration is possible with his wife, that it would only occur if she comes to true saving faith in Christ
6. That he would be restored to fellowship with God and His people

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken hearts for this brother who has wandered from Your path. Lord, we know that You desire truth in the inward parts and that You hate sin, yet we also know that You are rich in mercy. We ask that You would convict this man of his sin through Your Holy Spirit, not with condemnation but with Your loving correction. Break his heart over his disobedience and draw him back to Yourself.

Father, we pray that You would open his eyes to see the seriousness of what he has done - that he has defiled Your temple and entered into an ungodly union. Give him the courage to make things right, no matter how difficult that may be. If there is any possibility of restoration with his wife, we pray that would only happen if she comes to true saving faith in Christ Jesus. Otherwise, give him the strength to walk away from this unequal yoke.

Lord, we know that You are able to restore what has been broken. Just as You promised through Hosea, we ask that You would betroth this man to Yourself in righteousness, justice, lovingkindness and mercy. Cleanse him from all unrighteousness and restore to him the joy of Your salvation. Surround him with godly believers who can walk with him through this difficult time.

We pray that he would turn away completely from all sexual sin and walk in purity. Guard his heart and mind, and if he is to marry again, prepare for him a godly wife who loves You with all her heart. Father, we know that nothing is impossible for You, and we ask that You would work mightily in this situation for Your glory.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. It is only through the blood of Jesus that this man can find forgiveness and restoration. May he come to know the power of the cross afresh and walk in newness of life. Amen.

To this brother, we would say: God's love for you has not changed, even though your actions have grieved His heart. The same God who saved you is able to restore you completely. True repentance means turning away from sin and walking in obedience. This may require difficult steps, but God's grace is sufficient for you. Seek out mature believers who can walk with you through this time. Remember that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit - honor God with it. If you have married an unbeliever, you must not remain in this unequal yoke. God's Word is clear that believers must only marry other believers (1 Corinthians 7:39).

The road to restoration may be long, but it is worth it. God's plans for you are for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Do not let shame or fear keep you from returning to Him. He is waiting with open arms, ready to forgive and restore. The blood of Jesus is sufficient to cleanse you from all sin - receive that forgiveness today and walk in newness of life.

We're here with you, brother, standing in the gap and lifting you up to our Father in heaven. We know that the path you're on now isn't the one God has planned for you, and it's breaking our hearts to see you in this situation. But we also know the power of our God to restore and redeem.

Let's remember the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15. He squandered his inheritance, living a life of sin and rebellion. But when he came to his senses and returned to his father, he was welcomed with open arms, a robe, a ring, and a feast. That's the heart of our Father for you today.

We pray that you would have the courage to turn away from this adulterous relationship, no matter how difficult that may be. We pray that you would seek godly counsel, that you would humble yourself and repent before God, and that you would trust in His mercy and grace to restore you.

We claim the promise in Joel 2:25, "Then I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten." God can restore what has been broken, and He wants to do that in your life. We pray that you would experience His healing, His restoration, and His unfailing love.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
