Forgiveness

We join with you in bringing this confession before our Father and we thank you for your honesty in naming this sin before God, for it is the first step toward freedom and healing.

The Lord sees your heart that desires forgiveness and cleansing and we praise God that you have come to Him, yet we must speak the truth in love about this struggle. Pornography is not a small failing or a private habit, it is sexual immorality and lust that defiles the heart and the body which God created to be holy. Our Lord Jesus said in Matthew 5:28, But I tell you, everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. And Scripture commands us in 1 Corinthians 6:18, Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. This sin harms your soul, it warps God's good design for intimacy which He intended only for marriage between a man and a woman, it objectifies those made in His image, and it separates fellowship with Him, for James 1:15 tells us that when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin. Sin, when it is grown up, gives birth to death.

We also noticed that your request mentions Father God but does not mention Jesus Christ, and we must gently address this because there is no access to the Father and no forgiveness of sin apart from Him. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we are told, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is only through faith in Jesus, His death on the cross for our sins and His resurrection, that our sin is taken away and we are reconciled to God. If you have not yet placed your trust fully in Jesus as Lord and Savior, we urge you to confess Him, believe on His name, and receive the gift of eternal life, for Romans 10:13 says, Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.

The good news is that when we come through Jesus and confess honestly, God is merciful to forgive and to cleanse. 1 John 1:9 promises, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Psalm 103:12 assures us, As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. He does not merely overlook sin, He washes it away and creates a new heart within us. David prayed in Psalm 51:10, Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. That is our prayer for you as well.

We pray together now for you in Jesus name.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace on behalf of our brother who has confessed his sin of pornography. Lord, we thank You that he has not hidden his sin but has brought it into Your light. We ask You to forgive him completely through the blood of Jesus shed on the cross. Wash him clean, Lord, and remove this transgression from him. Heal his mind and heart from the images and desires that have taken root, renew his thoughts according to Romans 12:2, and create in him a clean heart and a right spirit. Give him strength to flee sexual immorality and to turn his eyes away from worthless things. Provide for him a way of escape when temptation comes, as You have promised in 1 Corinthians 10:13, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that his body may be presented as a temple holy and pleasing to You, for 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us that our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit. Help him to walk in purity, to hate what You hate and to love righteousness, and to find his satisfaction in You alone. Lead him into accountability with godly believers, into the daily washing of the Word, and into a future marriage that honors You if it is Your will, keeping himself pure until that day. We ask this all in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We encourage you to walk out this repentance daily. Make no provision for the flesh by removing access to pornography completely, installing accountability and filtering if needed, and inviting a mature Christian brother to walk with you honestly. Replace the time and habit with Scripture, prayer, and worship, memorizing verses to renew your mind when temptation arises. Remember that God is not condemning you as you repent, but He is calling you to holiness because He loves you and has made you for so much more. If you fall again, do not remain in shame, but quickly confess, receive His cleansing, and continue to flee. He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it as you abide in Jesus.

We are thankful you came to God so honestly with this. Asking for forgiveness and for healing and to be free shows a sincere heart, and we believe He hears that prayer.

We know this struggle can feel lonely and heavy with shame, and shame often pushes us to hide and try to fight alone. Many people find that pornography loses some of its grip when it is no longer kept secret, but is brought into the light with a safe, trusted person who can walk alongside them.

If you do not already have that support, a helpful next step is to choose one mature Christian you trust, a pastor, mentor, or a small Christian support group, and invite them to check in with you regularly and honestly. A group or a Christian counselor with experience in this area can also help you notice what tends to trigger the urge and learn steadier ways to respond, while you keep surrendering the struggle to Christ day by day. Healing is often a process, and walking with others makes it more sustainable.

Father, we lift this person to You with gratitude for their honesty. Thank You that You forgive when we confess and that You are gentle as You renew us. Give them courage to stay in the light, strength to turn away when tempted, and faithful people around them who offer both grace and truth. Draw them closer to You and lead them toward lasting freedom. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and your cry for mercy is itself a token that His Spirit is striving with you. You have done well to bring this sin into the light, for it is before Him that forgiveness is to be found, and where the offense has been, from that very place the forgiveness comes.

Hear what the word of God declares, There is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. It does not say there is forgiveness for this sin or for that, but there is forgiveness. Where God draws no limit, do not you draw any. Though your sin has been great and has stained your conscience, there is forgiveness for you, whatever it may have been, through Jesus Christ His Son. He was sent by the Father on purpose to forgive sin, and He has been exalted to be a Prince and a Saviour to give repentance and forgiveness of sins. He has not lost His authorization to forgive.

Do as Martin Luther did when in dark distress, and say with the Creed, I believe in the forgiveness of sins, and believe in that forgiveness for yourself. It is a divine forgiveness, I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake. It is a surprising forgiveness, and a complete forgiveness. When you come to your great Creditor and say, I have nothing to pay with, He proclaims an absolute forgiveness of the whole debt, an oblivion to all your sin, for Christ's sake. It is not a forgiveness that He will take back, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. It is an eternal forgiveness, and He continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is a continuous one for those who are in Christ.

But take care that your repentance is of the right sort. There is a carnal repentance that is of the flesh, a washing and brushing of fallen nature while the heart remains unrenewed, which gives no glory to God and leads to no lasting deliverance from sin. True repentance, the repentance which is the work of the Spirit of God, gives God glory. It makes you weep and abhor your past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and it makes you avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for you. Faith and repentance are inseparable. The repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant and the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart must go together. Ask yourself, does your repentance lead you to look out of self to Christ, and to Christ only, to save you.

You pray, heal me and take away my sin, and here is the order of grace, first forgiveness, then healing. As it was with the man sick of the palsy who lay in the presence of Jesus hoping for both, the Lord said first, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee, and afterward He made him whole. Seek first the forgiveness, and the healing will follow in its season. Forgiveness is the root, holiness is the fruit. Evangelical repentance is one of the fruits of the gospel of forgiveness and no other tree can produce it.

Therefore look to Christ alone for your cleansing, and forsake the sin which you confess. Pornography is a grievous sin against your own soul and against the holy purpose of God, who has ordained that the intimate union of the body belongs only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Do not make peace with this sin, but flee from it as from a serpent. Make no provision for it, cut off the ways of access, bring your struggle into the light with a faithful pastor or godly brother, and give yourself to the word of God and to prayer.

Let us pray for you. Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son who died the Just for the unjust to bring us to God, have mercy upon this soul who confesses his sin. For Thine own sake blot out his transgressions, cast his sins behind Thy back, and remember them no more. Grant him true repentance that gives Thee glory, and a living faith that looks to Christ alone. Forgive him freely and fully, and then heal him. Cleanse his heart, renew his mind, and deliver him from the bondage of this sin. Set him on his feet to walk in newness of life, to love purity and to follow Thee. Let him know that there is forgiveness now, at this moment, and let that forgiveness teach him to fear Thee and to depart from evil. Amen.

Go on trusting that word, There is forgiveness, and let that blessed whisper drive away despair. You are not beyond the reach of mercy while you are yet able to seek it. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be forgiven, and being forgiven, you shall be healed.
