Forgiveness, healing

We hear your cry for forgiveness and healing, and we join you in coming before the throne of grace with humility and repentance. The struggle with pornography is a heavy burden, but we know that our Lord is faithful and just to forgive us when we confess our sins and turn away from them. Scripture tells us in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Your willingness to bring this before God is the first step toward true freedom.

Pornography is a sin that distorts God’s beautiful design for intimacy and sexuality, which He created to be enjoyed within the sacred covenant of marriage between a man and a woman. It enslaves the heart and mind, leading to shame, isolation, and spiritual bondage. But we serve a God who breaks chains and sets captives free! In John 8:36, Jesus declares, "If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." We believe that by the power of the Holy Spirit, you can walk in victory over this sin.

We must also address the root of this struggle. Often, pornography is not just about lust but about filling a void, whether it be loneliness, stress, boredom, or past wounds. We encourage you to invite the Lord to search your heart and reveal any areas that need His healing touch. Psalm 139:23-24 says, "Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way." Let Him expose the lies you may have believed and replace them with His truth.

Accountability is also vital in this battle. Proverbs 27:17 tells us, "Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance." Seek out a trusted, godly brother in Christ who can walk with you, pray for you, and hold you accountable. Do not let shame keep you in isolation, confess your struggles to someone who can help you bear this burden.

We also rebuke the enemy’s lies that tell you this sin is too great for God’s grace or that you are defined by your failures. The devil is a liar, and his goal is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). But Jesus came that you might have life, and have it abundantly! You are not your sin; you are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). The blood of Jesus covers you, and His power is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken and contrite hearts, lifting up our brother who is struggling with the sin of pornography. Lord, we thank You that You are a God of mercy and grace, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. We ask that You would forgive him, cleanse him, and wash him whiter than snow. Break the chains of this addiction, Lord, and set him free by the power of Your Holy Spirit.

Father, we ask that You would heal the wounds in his heart that may have led him to seek comfort in this sin. Replace the lies of the enemy with Your truth. Remind him daily of his identity in Christ, that he is Your beloved son, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, and called to walk in purity and holiness. Surround him with godly men who can encourage and hold him accountable. Give him the strength to flee from temptation and the wisdom to guard his heart and mind.

Lord, we declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We rebuke the spirit of lust and addiction in the name of Jesus and command it to leave. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in the fruit of self-control and live a life that honors You.

We thank You, Father, that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun in him (Philippians 1:6). May he experience the freedom and joy that comes from living in obedience to You. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Continue to press into God, brother. Memorize Scripture to combat the lies of the enemy, spend time in prayer and worship, and immerse yourself in God’s Word. The battle is real, but the victory is already won through Christ. You are not alone, we are standing with you, and more importantly, the Lord is fighting for you. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before His glory with great joy (Jude 1:24). Walk in that truth today.

We're thankful you came honestly before the Lord with this. Naming it plainly as sin and asking for His forgiveness and healing is a brave and humble step, and we want you to know you are not alone in this struggle.

Many who have walked this road find that wanting to stop is real, and yet willpower alone is not enough. Pornography can become a deep habit that is used to push away loneliness, stress or other painful feelings, and shame can keep it hidden. Bringing it into the light with God and with another safe person is often where real change begins to grow.

One practical step that helps many is to invite one trusted, mature Christian into the struggle for ongoing accountability. That could be a pastor, a counselor, or a well established Christ centered recovery group in your area where honesty and encouragement are practiced weekly. You do not have to sort out everything at once, just take the next faithful step and keep walking with the Lord day by day.

Father, we thank You for Your mercy through Jesus and for hearing this honest prayer. Forgive, cleanse and heal our brother as he seeks You. Give him strength to walk in purity, wisdom to know what triggers to avoid, and courage to stay connected to You and to trusted support. Lead him step by step into freedom and wholeness. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and your prayer has come before Him who delights to show mercy. You have done well to come as that poor man who lay before Jesus, helpless in himself, hoping and expecting both forgiveness and healing from the same Lord. To tremble and shake for fear, and with a penitent heart to desire forgiveness, is the very posture in which Christ is ready to meet you.

Know then what that forgiveness is. It is a divine forgiveness, for the Lord Himself says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. Were all men to hiss at you, their forgiveness would not be needed to enter heaven, but His is. It is a surprising forgiveness, so surprising that He repeats, I, even I, as if to assure the chief of sinners that there is forgiveness even for him. It is a complete forgiveness. Your debt is not partly remitted, but the tally is destroyed, the record nailed to the Cross. It contains no conditions for the repenting and believing sinner, and it is an eternal forgiveness, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He never plays fast and loose with men. If you have come to Christ, trusting in Him alone for salvation, for there is no other name by which you must be saved, then believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, as Luther was told to do when in dark distress. Do not leave it as a question, forgiveness or no forgiveness, but lay hold with assurance upon this, There is forgiveness with Him.

And after forgiveness comes healing. Our Lord first said, Thy sins are forgiven thee, and then He bade the man rise and walk. So He deals still. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and even the least thing about Christ has healing virtue. He not only forgives at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, and He changes the life blood and makes the nature other than it was before. What you ask, that He would take this sin away, is according to His will, for He came to deliver us from worse enemies than any earthly foe, and to save us by a greater salvation.

Turn then fully to Him and forsake that which has defiled you. Pornography is sin against the holy God who made us for purity, and who appointed that intimacy should belong only within the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman in marriage. Confess it plainly, flee from it, put away the provision for it, bring it into the light before a faithful pastor or brother, and walk in the daily use of the Word and prayer where Christ makes His healing known. He will not despise a broken heart.

We have prayed for you, that the Lord would speak peace to your conscience through the blood of His Son, and that He would grant you strength to walk in newness of life, keeping your heart and eyes pure before Him. Cast yourself now upon that promise, There is forgiveness, and prove also that there is healing in His wings.
