We give thanks for this faithful witness and we join together in agreement with this truth that salvation comes only through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We rejoice that the gospel is so clearly proclaimed, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation. Romans 10:9-10

We affirm that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23 and that the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 Jesus himself said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16

We agree that true faith includes repentance, to confess and turn from our sins, for if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 We are saved by grace through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 and when we are in Christ we become a new creation. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 To follow and obey Jesus is the evidence of that new life.

We pray together for all who are seeking salvation even now. Father in heaven, we lift up every searching heart to you in the name of Jesus Christ. We ask that you draw each one by your Holy Spirit, open their eyes to see their need for a Savior, grant them repentance and faith to confess Jesus as Lord and to believe that you raised him from the dead. Forgive their sins, wash them clean by the blood of Jesus, give them the gift of eternal life and fill them with your Spirit that they may walk in obedience to you. Lead them into your Word and give them hunger to know you more.

We encourage all who are seeking to do as has been shared, to read and study the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, beginning in the book of John, that you may know who Jesus is, what he has done, and what it means to follow him. Continue in prayer, turn from sin, trust in Christ alone, and find fellowship with other believers who will help you grow in faith.

We rejoice to join you in prayer for those who are seeking salvation, and we give thanks for the faithful word you have set forth from Romans 10:9-10. There is a due order for faith and confession and there is a clear connection between them. With the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. The result of the two put together is salvation, and we must not put asunder what God has joined.

The way of salvation is simply this, trust Jesus Christ, that is believing with the heart. It is not a matter of trusting in our own faith, our repentance, our prayers or our attainments, we rest upon Jesus Christ crucified and not upon anything that comes from us. We look right away from ourselves to Jesus, who is all our salvation, the Alpha and Omega, the Author and Finisher of faith. Simple faith is always the work of the Spirit, and He never leads us to rest upon the work within, but points us always to Jesus.

And that faith is never alone. Our Lord commences His ministry with the two love notes of repentance and faith, and no faith can be genuine but such as is perfectly consistent with repentance for past sin, and no repentance is true but that which consorts with faith. They come into the soul together, like Siamese twins, and repentance lives as long as faith. True repentance, which is the work of the Spirit of God, gives God glory, loathing sin because it is hateful to the heart of Jesus, and craving after holiness afterward. Do not wait for an eminent degree of repentance before you come to Christ. There are degrees of faith and yet the least faith saves, so there are degrees of repentance and the least repentance will save the soul if it is sincere. Even faith as a grain of mustard seed is true faith when it begins and ends with Jesus, and if you believe that Jesus is the Christ you are born of God.

Therefore we pray that the Lord will grant to every seeking soul that holy faith and that hearty repentance which He delights to give in the name of Jesus. May each one confess with the mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in the heart that God raised Him from the dead, not as a mere form but as a personal confession, saying each for himself, I am the Lord's. May they turn from sin and follow and obey the Lord Jesus, not perfectly at first, but sincerely, looking to the cross where Christ was nailed for sin, for there repentance and faith are both begotten.

We commend your counsel to read and study the Gospels, and to begin in the book of John, for there the testimony concerning Christ is plainly set forth that we might believe. Sincere faith must treat all God's Word alike, and to begin with John is to behold the Lamb of God and learn to trust Him for daily grace and for eternal life. May the Spirit of God open the Word to every reader and lead them to obey the precept of Christ, to come to Him at His bidding and find Him faithful to save.

We pray that those who are seeking may now be led to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, to confess Him openly, and to walk in newness of life by the power of the Holy Spirit, to the glory of God. Amen.

It is encouraging to see this burden for those who are seeking salvation, for God desires that all would come to repentance and find life in His Son. The Scripture you shared is true and central, that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. With the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

This confession is more than words. It is a sincere faith that trusts in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, turns from sin with godly sorrow, and bears fruit in keeping with repentance. To follow Jesus is to leave the old way of life behind and to walk in obedience to Him, relying on His grace.

That promise shows how salvation comes. It is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by our own efforts. When a person first trusts in Jesus, God counts that faith as righteousness, even before any good works have been done. It is a gift of God, so no one can boast. Even the faith to believe is given by God as He draws us to Himself. Because Jesus paid the price and rose again, the door is open for anyone who trusts in Him to enter into the covenant of blessing God has promised.

This is why the answer to the question of eternal hope must be simply faith in Jesus Christ. The moment we add anything to that, saying faith in Christ plus something else we do, we move away from the gospel. Abraham was counted righteous because he believed God’s promise of the Messiah, and in the same way we are counted righteous when we believe in Jesus who was delivered for our offenses and raised for our justification. We are saved by faith, and we stand before God clothed in the righteousness of Christ, not our own.

That true faith will show itself in a changed life. Turning from sin and following and obeying Jesus do not earn salvation, they flow from it. Genuine faith that brings salvation also brings fruit in how we live, not as a way to be saved but as evidence that we have been saved. God works in us first, and then He works through us, and He keeps us by His power through faith until the end.

Your encouragement to read and study Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, beginning with John, is wise. John so clearly presents Jesus as God come in the flesh, the one who brings eternal life, and who is the only way to the Father. As you and others you are praying for read, pray that God would strengthen faith and hope in Him, and that He would help each heart to see Jesus as Lord and to trust fully in His finished work.
