Beloved of All
We thank you for bringing your brother before the Lord with such faithful concern, and we join you in praying for him in the name of Jesus.
You describe bitterness and a worldly way of living, along with uncertainty in his work. Scripture teaches us to look diligently lest any root of bitterness spring up, for such a root cannot bear sweet fruit. It troubles the heart itself and defiles many around it, and it must be carefully examined and cut off. We pray that God will show your brother this root in his heart and grant him grace to turn from it.
You also see rightly that a worldly life brings much toil and sweat for things that do not last, while life itself remains uncertain. To labor for virtue and to labor for what is worldly both involve toil, but only one has great and lasting profit. We pray that he will see the emptiness of living for present things and will choose the better path that leads to life.
We pray that God will fill him with His Holy Spirit. The Spirit comes and fills the heart when we put away lying and bitterness and impurity and covetousness, and become kind and tender hearted, forgiving one another. Then a great light is kindled within, and the way of virtue is no longer so difficult to walk. May the Lord lead him out of darkness into light, so that he does not live as in the night but watches and walks in the light.
We ask that Jesus Christ, who alone is our salvation, will reveal to him the path he should take, give him wisdom and steadiness in his work, and guide his steps according to His will. May God grant him a new heart that seeks Him, turns from what is empty, and follows what is good and pleasing to Him.
