FOR HELP TALKING TO DOCTOR & FOR NO CANCER

Leah B.

Humble Servant of All
I got back my PET scan results. My 6.4-mm irregular left upper lobe nodule came back positive. Now they want to do a biopsy. This being said, here's my issue: The PET scan was performed by VA. Prior to the PET scan, my outside-VA pulmonologist, who I gave a copy of the actual PET scan to, told me this nodule was already present for a few years. On top of that, in the 66 days between the discovery of the nodule on a CT scan and the actual PET scan, this nodule remains at 6.4 mm. It hasn't grown a bit. Another relevant fact: PET scans on nodules below 8 mm are often false positive. Okay. Yet another fact: My entire throat also lit up on the PET scan because I have severe GERD and LPR. My throat and upper airway are inflamed. And another: I took a pepsin saliva test at home and two out of three tubes were positive for pepsin. Most importantly, the morning sample was positive, which proves I am microaspirating stomach acid and pepsin into my lungs and throat. I have more than just this one lung nodule. Guaranteed they were all caused by GERD. Stomach acid is damaging my lungs when I already have COPD. More germane here, I believe that's why this 6.4-mm nodule is lighting up. It's very likely not cancer. It's inflammation. My point? I don't want to take a chance on getting a collapsed lung from a biopsy. I want my outside-VA pulmonologist to take over and just monitor this thing with CAT scans every three months. If it's not growing, it very likely is not cancer. Please in Jesus's name, help me make my case to my outside-VA pulmonologist. He called early this morning. I just missed him. I returned his call, but he never called back. I'm pretty sure he will call early tomorrow too. Please in Jesus's name give me strength. You know what another finding on that PET scan was? Cholelithiasis. That's a direct side-effect from the omeprazole I take for my GERD. As you may recall, I am trying hard to get the TIF surgery with hernia removal to resolve my GERD/LPR. It's affecting my breathing, making me so sick at times. I ate bread on Christmas. I didn't make it to Mother's Day because I was too sick. I basically have given up cooking and curtailed even what little social life I have because anything involving food is like navigating a loaded minefield. And now this -- That omeprazole that barely even works anymore has given me gallstones. The TIF surgery could make me not need to use antacids and proton pump inhibitors. To conclude: In Jesus's name, pray I do well on the phone with my pulmonologist and that he will see the logic in what I'm saying. I honestly believe the risk of harm from the biopsy is higher than the risk this thing is cancerous. I'm actually sorry I ever agreed to a cancer screening to begin with. VA had called me and written me letters to have that CT scan for about three weeks before I agreed to it. I haven't smoked in almost 19 years, and my outside-VA pulmonologist, who is an excellent doctor, stopped ordering CT cancer screening scans on my lungs about five years ago. Again, I am terrified of lung damage from an unnecessary biopsy. Also in Jesus's name please pray this nodule never grows. Finally, please pray my pulmonologist will support me in getting TIF surgery and that my gallstones never become symptomatic. Thank you for praying.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your concerns and fears about your health. Father, we ask that You grant wisdom and clarity to both this dear one and their doctors as they navigate these medical decisions. Your Word tells us in James 1:5, *"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."* Lord, we ask that You pour out Your wisdom upon them, guiding every conversation and decision.

We understand the fear that comes with medical uncertainty, but we also know that You are the Great Physician. Psalm 139:16 reminds us, *"Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them."* Father, we trust in Your sovereign plan, and we ask that You calm the anxiety in this heart. Help them to rest in the knowledge that You hold their future.

We rebuke the spirit of fear in the name of Jesus, for 2 Timothy 1:7 declares, *"For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control."* We pray for courage and peace as they speak with their pulmonologist, that their words would be clear and their arguments grounded in both medical logic and faith. Father, we ask that You soften the doctor’s heart to hear and consider their concerns, especially regarding the risks of a biopsy versus the benefits of monitoring.

We also lift up the battle with GERD and LPR, which has caused so much suffering. Lord, we ask that You provide relief and healing, and that the TIF surgery would be approved and successful. We pray against the formation of gallstones and any further complications from the medications they are taking. Your Word tells us in Jeremiah 30:17, *"For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh."* We claim this promise over their body, trusting that You are working even now to bring healing and restoration.

Father, we pray specifically about the nodule in their lung. We ask that if it is not cancer, You would prevent it from growing and cause it to shrink or resolve entirely. We declare that by the stripes of Jesus, they are healed (Isaiah 53:5), and we stand on Your promise of health and wholeness. We also pray for protection against any harm that could come from unnecessary procedures, trusting in Your divine protection.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You strengthen their faith through this trial. Help them to fix their eyes on You, the Author and Perfecter of their faith (Hebrews 12:2). Remind them that You are with them in every moment, and that Your grace is sufficient for every need (2 Corinthians 12:9). We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, for it is only through Him that we have access to You. Amen.
