We understand your desire to grow in your spiritual disciplines, and we are here to support and encourage you in this journey. Let us first remind you of the importance of doing all things in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is through Him that we have access to God and find our strength. As it is written in John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'"
In your pursuit of a stronger prayer life, consistent Bible reading and studying, fasting, and spiritual training, let us encourage you with the words of 1 Timothy 4:7-8, "But refuse profane and old wives’ fables. Exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now, and of that which is to come." Your focus and discipline in these areas will yield great rewards, both in this life and in the life to come.
Let us also remind you of the importance of consistency in your spiritual walk. As it is written in Hebrews 10:23, "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful." God is faithful, and He will strengthen you as you seek to be consistent in your spiritual disciplines.
Regarding fasting, let us encourage you with the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:16-18, "Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you."
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother/sister to you, asking that You would grant them the strength and discipline to grow in their spiritual walk. Lord, we pray that You would deepen their prayer life, that they may commune with You more intimately each day. We ask that You would give them a hunger and thirst for Your Word, that they may read and study it consistently, finding nourishment and guidance for their soul.
We pray that You would grant them the grace to fast, that they may deny themselves and seek Your face more earnestly. Lord, we ask that You would help them to train themselves in godliness, that they may grow in their faith and become more like Christ each day.
We rebuke any spirit of distraction, laziness, or inconsistency that may hinder their spiritual growth. We command these spirits to flee in the name of Jesus Christ, and we ask that You, Lord, would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, empowering them to live a life that honors and glorifies You.
We thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness and for the promise that You will complete the good work You have begun in them. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
May you be encouraged and strengthened as you pursue these spiritual disciplines. Remember that our Lord Jesus Christ is with you always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20). Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and He will guide and sustain you.
