Father, We thank You that Jesus not only referred to Scripture as authoritative, unable to be broken, but "Jesus said to them, 'These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms. Then HE opened their MINDS to UNDERSTAND the Scriptures,” Luke 24:44-45. "For 'The word of the Lord stands forever.' And this is the word that was proclaimed to you," 1 Peter 1:25. Peter continues to testify in his 2nd Epistle, "We also have the Word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation. 21 For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit," 2 Peter 1:19-21. "Consider also that our Lord's patience brings salvation, AS OUR BELOVED BROTHER PAUL HAS WRITTEN, ACCORDING TO THE WISDOM GIVEN HIM FROM GOD. He writes the same way in ALL HIS LETTERS, speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people distort, AS THEY DO THE REST OF THE SCRIPTURES, to their own destruction," 2 Peter 3:15-16.

Father, Thank You for the command that You gave Your people to not bear false witness, to which the inspired authors faithfully adhered, even promising punishment to those who do so, Prov 19:5. We thank You for not only inspiring ALL The Scriptures, 2 Tim 3:16, but for guarding and preserving them through the ages by committing them to painstaking writing keeping them from the corruption of man and deceitfulness of the serpent for infallible accuracy -- As new archeological findings CONTINUE to reinforce that SURELY God Almighty is able to keep Your Word pure, as it is written, Luke 16:17, "But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for a single stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law," and Matthew 24:35, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away," and Luke 21:33, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away," and Psalm 12:6, "The words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace, like gold purified sevenfold," and Isaiah 40:8, "The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever."

We join with you in this beautiful prayer and praise for the firm foundation of the Word of God and we say amen to your thanksgiving for the Scriptures.

If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do Psalm 11:3, but we rejoice that our foundation is not destroyed because it is built upon the unchanging Word of the Lord. We agree that the Scriptures are our sure foundation because they are breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness 2 Timothy 3:16, and that from infancy the sacred writings are able to make us wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus 2 Timothy 3:15.

How precious it is that our Lord Jesus Himself set His seal upon the Scriptures as authoritative and unbreakable. He said that everything must be fulfilled that is written about Him in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms and then He opened their minds, that they might understand the Scriptures Luke 24:44-45. We thank God that Jesus did not leave His church to guess at His meaning but that He opens minds still today to understand what is written. The word of the Lord remains forever and this is the word which was preached to you 1 Peter 1:25. That word is not a fading human opinion but as Peter testifies we have the word of prophecy made more sure, to which you do well that you take heed as to a lamp shining in a dark place until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts, knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of private interpretation, for no prophecy ever came by the will of man, but holy men spoke from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit 2 Peter 1:19-21. And even as you noted, Peter affirms Paul's letters as Scripture, that our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given to him wrote to you, as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they do also the other Scriptures, to their own destruction 2 Peter 3:15-16.

We also give thanks with you that the Scriptures give us hope, trust and unity. For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that through perseverance and through encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope Romans 15:4. It is the God who cannot lie who stands behind that hope, for in hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began Titus 1:2, and that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us Hebrews 6:18. God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do it, or has he spoken, and will he not make it good Numbers 23:19. Yes, the Glory of Israel will not lie nor repent, for he is not a man, that he should repent 1 Samuel 15:29.

We echo your prayer for trust and unity, that we may be diligent to present ourselves approved by God, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth 2 Timothy 2:15. We long to be not merely hearers but doers of the word, for if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror James 1:22. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ Romans 10:17, and we pray that the Lord will indeed open our minds to understand, help us to believe, for He warned, if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words John 5:47. We pray we will not have an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God Hebrews 3:12, but that we will be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, that with one accord you may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ Romans 15:5-6, even as Jesus prayed that they may all be one John 17:21, and as we are urged that you all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment 1 Corinthians 1:10.

We join you in thanking our Father that He has preserved His Word pure through the ages, for the words of Yahweh are flawless words, as silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times Psalm 12:6, and the grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever Isaiah 40:8. Jesus declared heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away Matthew 24:35, and that it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tiny stroke of a pen in the law to become void Luke 16:17.

So we pray together now.

Father, we thank You for Your perfect, inspired, infallible Word. We thank You for Jesus Christ who is the Word made flesh and in whose name alone we have access to You, for there is salvation in no other name. We ask that You would continue to open our minds to understand the Scriptures as You did for the disciples, that we would receive wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ, that we would be thoroughly equipped for every good work through Your Word. Grant to Your church perseverance and encouragement from the Scriptures that we might abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Fill us with all joy and peace in believing, that we may abound in hope Romans 15:13. Help us to guard against twisting the Scriptures and to accurately handle the Word of Truth, to believe it fully and to obey it humbly. Let Your Word be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. We ask that You would keep us from unbelief and cause faith to come by hearing Your Word, and that Your peace which surpasses all understanding would guard our hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. We pray all these things in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We join our hearts with yours in thanksgiving for the sure and abiding Word of our God. How merciful is He to have given us not broken fragments or uncertain voices, but a Word that stands forever, pure as silver refined seven times, unable to be broken, preserved through all generations that heaven and earth shall pass away but His words shall never pass away.

We praise Him with you that in the Scriptures we have all that is needful. They are inspired by God and profitable, they make us wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus, and by them we are instructed, corrected and furnished for every good work. As you have prayed, we ask the Lord to do for us as He did for those disciples on the road, to open our minds to understand the Scriptures, that we may see how all the Law and the Prophets and the Psalms testify of Christ.

We ask our faithful God, who cannot lie, to keep us believing what He has spoken. For by two unchangeable things it is impossible for Him to lie, and therefore we who have fled for refuge may have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us. May He grant us through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures to have hope, and to be of the same mind one with another according to Christ Jesus, that with one voice we may glorify the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is the hope which the Scripture sets forth, not a hope which disappoints, but a good hope through grace that abounds by the power of the Holy Spirit.

And we pray that the God of hope would fill you with all joy and peace in believing. For believing in Christ is the true ground for joy and peace. It is to trust Him who has discharged the whole debt due to divine justice, to rest upon His blood and righteousness and to know whom we have believed with assurance and without a shadow of doubt. Trusting Christ cures trusting self, and there is life and peace in that simple reliance upon Him.

May the Lord make you diligent to present yourself approved unto God, a workman that need not be ashamed, rightly handling the Word of Truth, not merely hearing it but doing it, for faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. May you continue in what you have learned, encouraged to trust, established in unity, persevering in holiness, and abounding in hope until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your heart.

We give thanks for your faithful intercession and pray that the Spirit who carried along holy men of old to speak from God will cause His Word to dwell richly in you, to keep you, to comfort you, and to conform you more and more to Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.
