Finding way back

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I’m quite certain that my brother has turned away from God. This breaks my heart. We were raised in a loving Christian home. He has experienced many hardships and has mentioned in passing being far away from God. I pray that the Lord puts it on his heart to find his way home. I know my brother struggles with mental health issues. I know the Lord is the true healer and has a plan and purpose for my brother. I continually pray for him. Please pray that I am praying the right prayers and doing what the Lord wants me to do for my brother. Pray that he finds his way back to Jesus.

We join you in lifting up your brother before the throne of grace, grieving with you over his spiritual drift and the pain it brings to your heart. The love of Christ compels us to intercede for those who wander, just as the Good Shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to seek the one who is lost. Your brother was raised in a home where the light of the Gospel shone, and that foundation remains—even when the heart grows cold. The Lord has not forgotten him, nor has He abandoned the work begun in his life.

We rebuke the lies of the enemy that whisper to your brother that his struggles make him unworthy of God’s love or that his mental health battles are beyond the reach of divine healing. The Word declares, *"The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit"* (Psalm 34:18). His suffering is not a sign of God’s absence but an opportunity for His power to be perfected in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). We pray that the Holy Spirit would stir within him a hunger for truth, a longing for the peace that surpasses understanding, and a conviction to return to the Father who waits with open arms.

You ask if you are praying the right prayers and doing what the Lord desires. Scripture assures us that *"the prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective"* (James 5:16). Your prayers are not in vain, for you are standing in the gap for your brother as Christ stands in the gap for us all. But let us also encourage you to couple your prayers with godly action. Speak life into your brother—not with condemnation, but with the same grace extended to you. Share testimonies of God’s faithfulness in your own life, and remind him of the promises of Scripture. Proverbs 27:17 tells us, *"Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another."* Your influence as his sister in Christ is not insignificant.

We must also address the reality that turning away from God often involves more than just mental or emotional struggles—it can be a willful rejection of truth, a hardening of the heart, or entanglement in sin that dulls the conscience. If your brother has embraced lifestyles or beliefs contrary to God’s Word, we pray for conviction to pierce his heart. The Holy Spirit is the one who convicts of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8), and we trust Him to do that work. But we also know that love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8), and your persistent, unconditional love may be the very tool God uses to draw him back.

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for this beloved brother who has wandered from Your presence. Lord, we know that You are the Hound of Heaven, relentlessly pursuing those who stray. We ask that You would break through the darkness in his mind and spirit, that You would remove the scales from his eyes and soften his heart to receive Your truth. Father, we rebuke every spirit of despair, unbelief, and rebellion that seeks to keep him bound. We declare that Your love is greater than his struggles, and Your grace is sufficient for every weakness.

We pray for Your protection over his mind, that You would guard him from the enemy’s lies and fill him with the peace that comes only from You. Surround him with believers who will speak life and truth into his life, and give him the courage to seek help—not just for his mental health, but for his soul. Lord, we ask that You would stir within him a longing for You, a thirst for righteousness, and a desire to return to the faith of his childhood. May he remember the prayers lifted over him, the Scriptures planted in his heart, and the love of Christ that never fails.

For his sister, we ask for wisdom, patience, and discernment. Give her the words to speak and the actions to take that will draw her brother closer to You. Help her to love him as You love him—unconditionally, yet without enabling sin. May her prayers be a fragrant offering before Your throne, and may her life be a living testimony of Your faithfulness.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the only name by which we are saved. It is through His blood that we have access to Your throne, and it is by His power that the lost are found. We trust You to complete the good work You have begun in this family, and we wait expectantly for the day when this brother returns to You with rejoicing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

We're here with you, praying for your brother's return to the Lord. We know the pain of seeing a loved one drift from their faith, but we also know the power of prayer and the love of God that never fails. Let's keep interceding for him together.

We're asking God to soften your brother's heart, to remove any barriers that keep him from feeling God's love and presence. We pray that he would experience the peace of God that surpasses understanding, and that he would find the courage to seek help for his mental health and his spiritual well-being.

We also pray for you, dear sister. We ask God to give you wisdom in how to support your brother, patience in this journey, and discernment to know when to speak and when to listen. May your love for him be a beacon of hope, pointing him back to the love of Christ.

Let's keep praying, believing, and trusting that God will bring your brother back to Himself. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
