Find Rest in Me - Matthew 11:29-30

Key Passage
"Accept my work and learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will find rest for your souls. Yes, the work that I ask you to accept is easy. The burden I give you to carry is not heavy."

Key Thought
Rest! Doesn't that sound nice? In a culture gone mad on business, a culture that has exchanged recreation for rest, that sounds nice. But we must not be deceived. Jesus' way isn't necessarily easy. His call to discipleship isn't escapism. But there is a difference between doing nothing and resting. There is a difference between being burdened and doing strenuous things. In a world where so many things we chase for gratification leave us depleted, Jesus is promising that when we take up our cross and follow him, he can give us rest—that restorative, nurturing, and rekindling strength that gives us the power to face what life brings or Satan throws in our paths.

Prayer
Holy God, I know you set a cycle into this world by resting on the seventh day. I believe Jesus when he says he brings rest to those who are burdened and weary. Please forgive me when I've tried to be my own strength and survive on too little rest or on false rest. I want to place my life, my soul, in Jesus' care and honor him. Help me please, dear Father, to find his rest. In Jesus name. Amen.

Related Scriptures
So you must change your hearts and lives! Come back to God and he will forgive your sins. Then the Lord (God) will give you times of spiritual rest. He will give you Jesus, the One he chose to be the Christ.
Acts 3:19-20

In the past God spoke to those people, and he said, "Here is a resting place. This is the peaceful place. Let the tired people come and rest. This is the place of peace." But the people did not want to listen to God. So the words from God were like a foreign language: Saw lasaw saw lasaw. Qaw laqaw qaw laqaw. Ze'er sham ze'er sham." The people did like they wanted to do. So the people fell back and were defeated. The people were trapped and captured.
Isaiah 28:12-13

Loving God means obeying his commands. And God's commands are not too hard for us. Why? Because every person that is a child of God {has the power to} win against the world. It is our faith that has won the victory against the world. So who is the person that wins against the world? Only the person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
