Your burden is heavy and your weariness is plain to hear, and I thank you for bringing it openly before the Lord and before his people. To be pressed on every side by debt, to face the loss of your home, to worry for school fees at the end of the month, to carry the weight of a frozen account and a broken provision for work, this is enough to tire any soul. Hear then that God does not despise a tired heart that turns to him.
You have clung to the promise that no weapon formed against you shall prosper, and you have given yourself to God through Jesus Christ. Hold fast there. It is through Christ alone that we have access to the Father and hope of salvation, and there is no other name by which we are saved. Keep your trust fixed on him, not on your own strength or on any other help.
Scripture calls us to pray with all perseverance and supplication, at all seasons, without ceasing. You are not forgotten when answers seem delayed. Remember the widow who by her persistence was heard, the friend who knocked at midnight until the door was opened, and the Canaanite woman who would not turn away even when the first answer was hard, and yet by perseverance she received mercy. So continue to watch and pray, not only at set times but through the day, bringing the same requests again and again before God with humility and patience. He often uses perseverance itself to shape us and to make us ready to receive.
I will pray with you for what you have laid out. I will ask the Lord to have mercy on your family, to provide what is necessary to keep your home, to make a way for the school fees, to bring justice and a fair and good outcome in the investigation of your motorcycle, and to grant wisdom to those who hold your fiance's account that what is right and lawful would be done without further delay. I will also ask him to give you strength in your weariness and wisdom as you steward what little you have, that you may be delivered from the crushing weight of debt.
In this trial, hear also the word that we are not to make provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts, but to provide for what is needful for health and for life, and to spend our chief care on spiritual things. This life is brief, like a sleep and like a dream where riches appear great for a moment and then vanish. That does not make your needs unreal, but it does call us to seek first what endures. Prune away what is unnecessary, seek only what keeps the body in health and the household in honesty, and let your great labor be for faith, hope, love, and holiness. God promises to supply our needs, not always our wants, and he does so that we may live soberly and trust him more deeply.
Concerning your fiance, I speak to you in love as a pastor must. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and it is within that covenant alone that God has placed sexual union and the sharing of one home as husband and wife. If you are living together as if married before you have entered that covenant, I urge you not to continue in that way but to honor God with your bodies and your household. This is not to add to your burden but to call you to what is good and holy and for your lasting good. I will not ask God to bless what is outside his design, but I will pray that he will give you both grace to walk in purity, to pursue marriage rightly and soon if that is his will, to seek counsel from faithful pastors, and to build your future on obedience rather than on haste or pressure. If you are already striving to live in purity while you wait, may the Lord strengthen you to continue.
Do not let shame keep you from the fellowship of the church. Go to your pastors, let them know the full weight of the debts and the account and the home, and receive their practical help and accountability. Bring your budgets and papers into the light, seek honest work and wise counsel, and let the body of Christ bear this burden with you as you persevere in prayer.
Let me pray for you now. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ your Son, have mercy on this brother and his family. You see his tiredness, his debts, the threat to his home, the need for his children's schooling, the frozen wages and the broken motorcycle. Provide what is necessary for life and godliness, grant favor and justice where decisions are being made, and give him wisdom to steward well what you entrust to him. Guard his heart from despair, keep him from temptation, and lead him and his fiance to walk in holiness and truth. Forgive our many debts as you have forgiven us in Christ, and teach us also to forgive. Make him steadfast in prayer, watching with perseverance, trusting not in riches which are like a dream, but in your unfailing love. Sustain him day by day until you bring relief in your perfect time. Amen.
Keep praying, keep watching, and keep your hope in Christ. He is near to those who call upon him with a sincere heart, and he will not cast away those who persevere in seeking him.
