Too often we disqualify ourselves, thinking, “I yelled at the kids. I lost my temper. I failed, so God can’t bless me now.” That is the language of the law, and the law can never bring a blessing, it only pronounces curses. But you are not under law. You stand in grace. The goodness of God is what leads a person to change, not fear of punishment. Let His love wash away the guilt that says you’re unworthy. Of course you don’t deserve it; none of us do. Receive His promise anyway, like a child opening a gift.
Unbelief is the real thief. A whole generation in the wilderness missed the land of promise because they hardened their hearts. God had given the word, but they refused to expect it. You have His promises to take care of every need. Do not let a spirit of doubt convince you that the blessing will never come. Expect it. Not because of your perfect behavior, but because your Father delights to give. He wants your joy to be full.
And remember, the blessing God gives is not meant to stop with you. Abraham was blessed to be a blessing. Even in seasons of tight resources, those who pour out what they have in love for others often find a supernatural supply. The Macedonian believers pleaded for the privilege of giving while they were in deep poverty themselves. Their secret was an overflowing joy rooted in the grace of God. As you fix your eyes on Jesus, the pressure of the moment gives way to a confident rest. He will bless you in the city and in the field, in your coming in and your going out. Stay in that place of trust, and watch Him open windows you didn’t even know existed.
