Financial Breakthrough

You speak of a financial breakthrough, yet tell me: what is the true loss you fear? Is it gold you lack, or a job, or relief from debt? These are but small matters, though they press heavily now. For if you spend a little money to no purpose, you call it a loss, but when you consume whole days in anxious thoughts over earthly things, do you think you are doing nothing wrong? Time is more precious than gold; if you lose gold you may get it again, but time squandered can scarcely be recovered. And you are in a civil war, your country in turmoil, this is the very hour to spend that time on supplications and prayers, not on calculating debts.

Consider the blessed Job. He was stripped of flocks, herds, servants, children, all in a single day. And what did he say? “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; naked came I out of my mother’s womb, naked shall I also go away.” He did not wail, nor curse, nor call it a loss. For it is not the event itself that is a loss, but how you receive it. If you give thanks to God, if you utter those same words, this very calamity becomes your gain. But if you let the devil, through this poverty and debt, provoke you to blasphemy or despair, then you will have suffered harm indeed. That is what he plots: not merely to empty your purse, but to empty your soul of faith. He knows that if you hold fast to God, you have lost nothing; rather, you have been enriched.

Let no one, not even a spouse, move you from this. If a wife anxious about money counsels you to curse God or take some unjust path, answer as Job did: “Thou speakest as one of the foolish women. Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” Such pressure in calamity can thrust a man into a pit, unless he stands firm.

You are overwhelmed by debt, but consider: it is a greater thing to forgive trespasses than to pay money. You may lack the means to settle accounts, but you can forgive anyone who has wronged you in this war, the one who stole, the one who destroyed your livelihood. Forgive, and you imitate God Himself. That costs no coin, yet it stores up treasure in heaven. Do you suppose this is no loss? It is abundance untold.

Then do not say you are poor and therefore unable to do good. Even now, without income, you can love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. You can set your heart on the kingdom of God, where neither war nor debt can reach. These worldly goods are but appendages to the great gifts of Christ. Love Him first, and He will add what you need. Cling only to these small things, and you may lose even them. So make the acquisition and loss of money alike indifferent. Count it all joy when you fall into this trial, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. May you learn to spend these days not on the devil’s pageants of worry, but on the fear of the Lord, and so transform seeming loss into everlasting gain.

The fighting you describe, brother against brother, city against city, echoes the very turmoil Scripture speaks of when a nation is given over to internal war. When such chaos surrounds you, finding yourself without work and drowning in debt feels like being trapped with no way out. That weight is real, and it is wise that you have brought this need before the Lord.

Be watchful, though, about how the promise of relief can itself become a snare. The world’s commercial system often pushes people hopelessly into debt by promising fulfillment in things that can never satisfy. When desperation sets in, the impulse to strike a deal, to become surety for another or to seize an offer that promises a quick end to the pressure, can prove ruinous. To make that kind of hasty pledge is to lack understanding, and it leads only to deeper slavery. God does not want you crushed under a system that takes advantage of people, but the path out rarely lies in grasping at the first hand that extends itself toward you.

What you truly need runs deeper than a financial breakthrough. God has made only one provision to deal with the ultimate debt every one of us carries. The forgiveness of your sin and the clearing of your guilt come only through His Son, Jesus Christ. If your hope rests on anything else, even relief from war and poverty, you are left with no true safety. But when you are found in Him, not clutching your own record of successes and failures, you receive a righteousness that is by faith. That standing before God is secure, no matter what the markets do or which powers rise and fall.

And since you have been forgiven immeasurably more than any dollar amount you owe, you are called to release any bitterness or unforgiveness you hold against someone else. A servant who had a staggering, unpayable debt canceled was later condemned for violently demanding a few dollars from a fellow servant. The measure of mercy we have received in Christ demands that we forgive. There is no negotiating this. When you forgive others, you walk in the freedom of your own forgiveness; when you refuse, you chain yourself to a debt of a different kind.

These conflicts you see around you are a foretaste of a larger war, a war that the world’s rulers, in their commerce and their strength, will one day wage directly against the Lamb. But when they make war against Him, the King of kings overcomes them with a word. No great battle will decide it. His victory is certain. Because your trust is in Him, your life rests in His hands. He is the one who bears His people on eagle’s wings into a place of provision, even when every earthly source of food and safety seems to disappear.

Bring your need before Him plainly. You have not because you ask not. Ask for daily bread and for wisdom to navigate the tangle of debt without becoming a slave to a corrupt system. And as you pray, rest in this: the day is coming when swords will be beaten into plowshares and war will be studied no more. Until then, you may be little and seemingly insignificant, like Bethlehem among the towns. Yet out of what is weak and overlooked, God brings forth His ruler and His provision. He will sustain you.
