Disciple of Prayer
Greetings, I am the only earning member in my family. My husband is not willing to work, and I will be retiring in three years. We still have many loans to repay, and I don't know what to do. I am working two jobs, yet we continue to face many struggles and spiritual battles. My brother is also going through similar financial difficulties. It feels as though every door is blocked for our family. Please pray that God will open new doors, provide a financial breakthrough, help us clear our debts, and break every obstacle in our lives. May the Lord bless our family with His provision, peace, and favor. My. brother is ### years old. He has completed many degrees and has been searching for a job for a long time. By God's grace, he finally got a job three months ago in our Christian diocese. However, he has not been receiving his salary. Please pray that God will bless him with a permanent position, that he will receive his salary without delay, and that the Lord will open doors of financial stability and favor in his life. Thank you so much for your prayers. God bless you. Greetings, I am the only earning member in my family. My husband is not willing to work, and I will be retiring in three years. We hear the weight of your burdens, dear sister, and we lift them before the throne of grace with heavy hearts. The struggle you describe, carrying the financial responsibility of your household alone, facing unpaid debts, and watching your brother endure similar hardships, is not one you were meant to bear in isolation. Scripture reminds us, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). You are not forgotten, and your cries have reached the ears of the Lord, who sees every tear and hears every prayer.

First, we must address the spiritual battles you mention, for financial struggles are often symptoms of deeper warfare. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and his tactics include despair, division in marriage, and the oppression of God’s people. Your husband’s unwillingness to work is not merely a financial issue but a spiritual one. The Word commands, "If anyone isn’t willing to work, don’t let him eat" (2 Thessalonians 3:10). This is not a call to harshness but to accountability, for idleness breeds temptation and strife (1 Timothy 5:13). We rebuke the spirit of laziness and passivity in his life and pray for a transformation of his heart. May he rise to the calling God has placed on him as a provider and leader in your home, as Scripture declares, "But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever" (1 Timothy 5:8). We pray for conviction, repentance, and a renewed sense of purpose in him.

For your brother, we stand in the gap for justice and provision. The delay in his salary is an injustice, and God is a God of justice. "The Lord works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed" (Psalm 103:6). We pray that the leaders in the diocese would act with integrity and honor their commitments to him. May his temporary position become permanent, and may his labor be rewarded without delay. We declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that the Lord will open doors no man can shut (Revelation 3:8).

Your own situation is deeply concerning, sister. Working two jobs while facing retirement with debts is a heavy yoke, but we serve a God who breaks every yoke (Isaiah 10:27). We rebuke the spirit of lack and declare that the Lord will provide for you according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). However, we must also speak truth: debt is a snare (Proverbs 22:7), and while we trust God for breakthrough, we encourage you to seek wise counsel. Proverbs 15:22 says, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established." Consider reaching out to a trusted financial advisor or a godly mentor who can help you create a plan to manage your debts. The Lord may also be calling you to make difficult but necessary changes, such as downsizing expenses or exploring additional income streams.

We also lift up the spiritual strongholds in your family. The feeling that every door is blocked is a lie from the enemy. Jesus said, "I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out, and will find pasture" (John 10:9). The doors of heaven are open to you, and we declare that the Lord will make a way where there seems to be no way (Isaiah 43:19). We break every curse of poverty, lack, and generational debt over your family in the name of Jesus. We speak life, favor, and financial breakthrough over your household.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the name by which we are saved and set free. Lord, we lift up this sister and her family to You, knowing that You are their Provider, their Shield, and their Strong Tower. Father, we ask that You would open doors of opportunity that no man can shut. Provide for their every need according to Your riches in glory, and break every chain of debt, lack, and financial oppression.

Lord, we pray for this sister’s husband. Soften his heart, Father. Convict him of his responsibility to work and provide for his family. Remove any spirit of laziness or complacency, and ignite in him a passion for Your purpose. May he rise up as the leader You have called him to be, and may their marriage be strengthened as they align with Your will.

For her brother, Lord, we ask for justice. May his employers act with integrity and pay him what he is owed. Grant him favor in his workplace, and let his temporary position become permanent. Open doors of financial stability for him, and let him walk in the fullness of Your provision.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of despair and hopelessness over this family. We declare that You are their Jehovah Jireh, their Provider. We speak breakthrough over their finances, peace over their household, and favor in every area of their lives. Let Your light shine in the darkness, and let Your glory be revealed in their circumstances.

We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayers. We trust in Your faithfulness, knowing that You are working all things together for their good. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and let them see Your hand moving in their lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Sister, we encourage you to stand on the promises of God. Meditate on His Word, for "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and hold you accountable. The road ahead may be difficult, but you are not walking it alone. The Lord is your Shepherd, and He will lead you beside still waters (Psalm 23:2). Keep pressing into Him, and watch as He turns your mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11). You are loved, you are seen, and your breakthrough is coming.

Thank you for letting us share in this heavy weight you’re carrying. You have been so faithful, working two jobs, shouldering the loans, and facing retirement without a second income while your husband remains unwilling to work. It’s not hard to see why it feels as though every door is blocked.

We have walked alongside others in similar financial storms, and we’ve noticed that when the pressure is this crushing, it can help to shift from trying to pry open every door all at once to simply taking one steady, concrete step. Your diligence and love for your family matter deeply to God, and your worth is not measured by what you can earn or solve. But you don’t have to navigate this alone. Would you be willing to meet with a trustworthy Christian financial counselor or a nonprofit credit counseling service? They can help you look honestly at the whole picture, loans, looming retirement income, and what adjustments might be realistic. Having even a rough plan can restore a measure of peace, even if the numbers don’t change overnight. If your church offers a financial peace ministry or a deacon’s fund, that could be another source of both wisdom and tangible support. And it may be wise to start talking with someone you trust about the transition to retirement, what income you’ll have, whether downsizing or other changes could help, and what emotional and practical preparation would strengthen you for that season.

Your brother’s situation is another weight. We will pray that his salary is released quickly and that he finds permanent stability. Encourage him to have a respectful, clear conversation with the diocese about the delay if he hasn’t already done so; sometimes that direct step can help.

We bring all of this before the Lord who sees and who cares:

Lord Jesus, you know the relentless pressure this family lives under every day. We ask you to open doors of provision that no one can shut. Give this sister the courage to reach out for wise counsel and the strength to take the next small step. For her brother, we ask that his wages come without further delay and that you establish him in secure, dignified work. Surround them both with your peace that surpasses understanding, and let them see your favor in practical, life-giving ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Your present trial is heavy upon you, yet look to Job, who in all his losses and griefs sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. The Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends; I charge you, therefore, to take up that same holy weapon. Intercede for your husband, that God would stir him to diligence; pray for your brother, that the door of a settled salary may at last swing wide. Peradventure while your mouth is filled with prayer for others, your own shackles shall fall. Job’s bow was renewed though for a season his glory was cut down, and his latter end was twice as blessed. The fountain for sin and for cleansing is open still, go, wash afresh, and find your spirit revived. Though He slay you, yet trust Him, for He is righteous even when His hand lies heaviest. And when you draw near the doors of the shadow of death, remember there are stores of grace laid up for you by those silent gates. Come to Christ, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and He will give you rest.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
