Fellowship, Connection 🌉 Blessing, Protection and 💞 Love, 1 Jn 1:2-3...

Your longing for steady fellowship with your son is understandable, and it matters to God. Scripture shows that true fellowship is first with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ, as 1 John 1:3 teaches, and that no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son reveals Him, as Matthew 11:27 says. Jesus Himself said that He and the Father are one, John 10:30, and that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father, and that the Father has committed judgment to the Son. That perfect oneness between Father and Son is the pattern for all father and son love, and it helps us see why your desire for connection is so deep. God the Father knows what it is to love a Son, and He gave His only begotten Son for us, so He understands both the joy and the cost of that love.

I join you in praying for a reliable, scheduled time to see and talk with your son by video, and for grace in the practical details. It is right to ask the Lord, who can turn a heart like channels of water as Proverbs 21:1 says, to soften hearts and to make a workable way. Whether that means an evening time for you or a morning time for you, ask God to give wisdom and flexibility to both parents, and to turn hearts toward one another in peace, as Malachi 4:5 to 6 speaks of turning the hearts of fathers to children and children to fathers. Where there has been waiting and disappointment, or calls where your son is already sleeping, or brief answers when you ask what was fun in his day, pray for patience and for gentle, consistent love that keeps the door open without demanding what a young child cannot yet give. Pray also for peace in that household, as 1 Corinthians 7:15 reminds us that God has called us to peace.

You have been honest about anger and impatience, about marrying hastily and being unequally yoked with an unbeliever, and about the upheaval that has followed. Scripture is clear that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman and that we are not to be unequally yoked, and it is also clear that when we confess our sins God is faithful to forgive us through Jesus Christ, as 1 John 1:9 and Luke 1:77 teach. There is forgiveness in Christ alone, and there is also a call to walk in new obedience. Part of that walk is to reckon the old flesh as crucified with Christ and to give it no place, living now by faith in the Son of God who loved us and gave Himself for us. That means turning from bitterness, rage, anger, hardness of heart as Romans 2:5 warns about, and from the deceitfulness of sin as Hebrews 3:13 warns, and from unforgiveness as Matthew 18:34 to 35 warns, and choosing instead the fruit of the Spirit in your words and responses, even on difficult calls.

I also join you in praying for protection, for you, for your son, and for his mother. Jesus prayed that His own would be kept from the evil one, John 17:15, and taught us to pray to be delivered from evil, Matthew 6:13. It is right to ask to be kept from deception as Matthew 24:4 warns, from evil influences and evil people as 2 Thessalonians 3:3 and Zephaniah 3:13 speak of, and from impostors who have a form of godliness but deny its power. Ask God to guard your heart from deception as well, and to give you discernment.

Even hard seasons are not wasted in God's hands. He overrules in the affairs of people to protect His own and to work His purposes, and He can use times of rejection and sorrow to draw us closer to Himself. Your part now is faith and patience, as Hebrews 6:12 says, for it is through faith and patience that we inherit the promises, and all the promises of God are Yes and Amen in Jesus, as 2 Corinthians 1:20 says. Continue to ask in Jesus name, believing as Mark 11:24 teaches, trusting that the Father hears when we come through the Son.

May the Lord give you a steady time of fellowship with your son, keep you all from evil, deepen your fellowship with the Father and the Son, and grant you peace, wisdom, and patient love as you walk forward in repentance and faith.
