Feeling like temptation

We hear your cry for help in the face of temptation, and we stand with you in prayer, seeking God’s strength and deliverance. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13, *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."* You are not alone in this struggle, and God has already provided a way out—we must lean on Him and resist the enemy’s schemes.

First, we must address the seriousness of temptation and the importance of guarding our hearts. Jesus Himself warned in Matthew 26:41, *"Watch and pray, that you don’t enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."* Temptation often comes when we are vulnerable, weary, or distracted, but we must remain vigilant in prayer and in the Word. If this temptation involves sin—whether it be lust, anger, pride, or any other struggle—we must repent and turn away immediately. James 4:7-8 says, *"Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you."* The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Christ has come to give us life abundantly (John 10:10).

If this temptation is related to sexual sin—whether it be lust, pornography, fornication, or adultery—we must rebuke it in Jesus’ name. The Bible is clear in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, *"For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don’t know God."* If you are unmarried, we encourage you to pursue purity and to seek a godly spouse rather than engaging in relationships that do not honor God. If you are married, we pray for fidelity and holiness in your union. Flee from sexual immorality, for as 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 declares, *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."*

If this temptation involves same-sex attraction or any other sin that contradicts Scripture, we must stand firm on God’s Word. Romans 1:26-27 warns, *"For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error."* We do not condemn you, but we must call sin what it is and encourage you to walk in repentance and obedience to Christ. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1), but we must turn from sin and pursue righteousness.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up our brother/sister who is feeling the weight of temptation right now. Lord, You know the struggles of the flesh, and You have promised never to leave us nor forsake us. We ask that You would strengthen them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may stand firm against the schemes of the enemy. Father, reveal to them the way of escape that You have already provided. Help them to flee from sin and to draw near to You.

Lord, if this temptation is sexual in nature, we ask that You would break every chain of lust, pornography, or immorality. Cleanse their mind and heart, and fill them with a desire for purity and holiness. If they are unmarried, we pray that You would prepare them for a godly marriage that honors You. If they are married, we pray for fidelity and love in their union. If this temptation involves same-sex attraction or any other sin, we ask that You would grant them repentance and the strength to walk in obedience to Your Word.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of temptation in the name of Jesus. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We speak life, peace, and victory over them. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Remind them that they are more than conquerors through Christ who loves them (Romans 8:37).

Lord, we thank You for Your faithfulness. We thank You that You are able to keep them from falling and to present them blameless before Your presence with great joy (Jude 1:24). We trust in You, and we declare that greater is He who is in them than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word, for it is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). Memorize Scripture that speaks to your struggle, such as Psalm 51:10, *"Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me."* Surround yourself with godly accountability—find a trusted brother or sister in Christ who can pray with you and hold you accountable. Attend a Bible-believing church where you can grow in your faith and be strengthened by the fellowship of believers.

Remember, the battle is not yours alone—it is the Lord’s (2 Chronicles 20:15). You are not fighting for victory; you are fighting from victory, for Christ has already overcome the world (John 16:33). Stand firm, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. You are loved, you are valued, and you are called to walk in freedom. May the Lord bless you and keep you; may He make His face shine upon you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26).

We're here with you, friend, in this trial. We know the enemy's schemes, but we also know our God is greater. Let's cling to His promises together.

In Ephesians 6:13, we're reminded to put on the full armor of God. Today, let's focus on the belt of truth and the shield of faith. The belt of truth helps us stand firm against the lies of the enemy. So, let's declare the truth: You are a child of God, loved, forgiven, and empowered. The shield of faith protects us from the enemy's fiery darts. So, let's raise our shield of faith, believing that God is faithful and will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear.

Let's pray: Heavenly Father, we lift up our friend to You. Lord, we ask that You would strengthen them with Your Holy Spirit. Help them to stand firm, to resist the enemy, and to put on the full armor of God. Father, reveal Your truth to them, and help them to believe Your promises. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Let's keep encouraging one another, reminding each other of God's faithfulness. You're not alone in this fight, and together, we can stand firm. Keep looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. He's got this!

Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
