It has been laid upon our hearts to bring your burden before the Lord, for you speak of illness and pain in the head and much stress of mind, with events before you among strangers, and many pressing cares.
Our Savior says, Do not be anxious about your temporal affairs, and do not be so affected by external things as to get into a state of worry, fretfulness, care, anxiety and distress. Be prudent, and cast your care upon Him who cares for you. I have found, and you will find it true, that the very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty, and I have never discovered that anxiety has comforted anybody, or that it has brought any grist to the mill, or any meal to the barrel. If a thing does not pay, what is the good of it. Your stress about these gatherings and about not knowing those who have invited you, and all the other matters that crowd upon you, will not help you to bear them. Tell Jesus about it, rather than telling yourself about it in secret fretfulness, for no good will come of that.
There is healing in Christ, and that in abundance. The Scripture says the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, and even His leaves, the little things as it were about Him, are full of healing virtue. He is the Sun of Righteousness risen with healing in His wings, and when He comes and dwells with His people they have no need to say, I am sick, for pardon and healing are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. So we look first to Him for the healing of the soul, and then for the healing of the body as it pleases Him to give it. He very speedily would have us care for bodily diseases, and they soon urge us to seek a physician for our healing, and this is right and prudent, but the great healing is of His own hand, and a real saving work is the work of God and God alone. He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses, and there is a contact established between Him and His people by His incarnation, and He takes us by the hand and lifts us up.
We will pray for you. O Lord our God, look in mercy upon this afflicted one who is ill and pained in the head and pressed with stress. Lay Your healing hand upon the body, ease the pain, and give refreshing rest and strength according to Your will. Forgive sin and speak peace to the troubled heart, for You heal the broken in heart and bind up their wounds. Take away fretful anxiety and give a calm trust in Your providence, that this dear soul may be fitted to meet each difficulty in Your strength and not in the weakness of worry. Give wisdom concerning these events, whether to go or to stay, and if it be to go, give grace to be at peace among strangers, for You are there. Let the healing leaves of the Tree of Life change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before, and let faith come by hearing Your Word, for You linked healing with teaching. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our heavenly Physician, who is able to heal and who says to the backslider, Return, and to all who come, I will in no wise cast out. Amen.
Seek the Lord in His Word and in prayer, and use the prudent means for the body, and rest your soul upon Him. He must begin with you before you can begin with Him, and healing must come before serving. Wait upon Him, and He will give you what is best.
