We join with you in lifting up your father-in-law before the throne of grace and we thank you for asking us to pray in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only through His name that we can be saved.
We are praying earnestly for both his physical healing and for the healing of his soul which is the greatest need. Scripture reminds us that Yahweh is the one who forgives all our sins and heals all our diseases in Psalm 103:3 and that He is Yahweh who heals us in Exodus 15:26. We also cling to the promise in James 5:15 that the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick and the Lord will raise him up, and in Jeremiah 30:17 that the Lord will restore health and heal wounds. We ask the Lord in His mercy and sovereignty to lay His healing hand upon your father-in-law, to grant wisdom and skill to those caring for him, to ease his suffering, and to restore his strength if it be His will.
Even more than physical healing we join you in praying for his salvation, for what does it profit a man if he gains his whole life but loses his soul. The Lord is not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance as we read in 2 Peter 3:9. We pray that God in His great mercy would open your father-in-law's eyes and soften his heart to receive the truth. Jesus said in John 14:6 that He is the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him, and in Acts 4:12 that there is salvation in no one else for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. We pray that he would hear and believe that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved in Romans 10:9, and that whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved in Romans 10:13.
We pray together now, Father in heaven we come before You in the precious name of Jesus and we lift up this dear father-in-law to You. Lord You know his age and his sickness and every detail of his life. We ask You to have mercy on him and touch his body with Your healing power and grant him more days to live for Your glory. Above all we ask You to draw him to Yourself, remove the blindness from his heart, and grant him repentance and faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Give this family boldness and love and gentle words to share the gospel with him in this time of need, and let Your Holy Spirit work powerfully in him. Bring peace and comfort and strength to his family as they wait upon You, and help them to trust in Your perfect love and will. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to continue to stand in the gap for him, to speak of the hope you have in Christ with gentleness and respect, and to let your love and care be a testimony of the gospel to him. Continue to pray without ceasing and trust the Lord with the outcome, knowing that our God hears our prayers and is compassionate and mighty to save.
