Thank you for sharing this prayer for your family. Your desire for unity, love, humility, patience and kindness is right at the heart of what God wants for a home, and it is good to bring it before Him.

Scripture teaches that love is from God, because God is love. The love He calls us to is not the shallow sentiment often portrayed around us, and it is more than natural family affection, as precious as that is. The love that is the fruit of His Spirit in us is agape, a giving, selfless love that seeks the good of the other. It is the love God showed when He loved us first and gave His Son for us. We did not earn it and we cannot buy it. He simply poured it out, and when we receive it, it creates a response in us. We love because He first loved us.

That is why forgiveness in the family is measured by His forgiveness of us. We are told to forgive as the Lord forgave us and to love as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. That is a high calling, but it is also the way to freedom. His forgiveness becomes our pattern and our power to forgive one another. When we dwell in that kind of love, God dwells in us and His love is made complete in us.

This love also shows itself in daily character. The Scripture defines it as suffering long and being kind, bearing with one another, not insisting on its own way. Humility, patience and kindness are not just ideals, they are the evidence that His Spirit is at work. God Himself is the God of patience and comfort, and as we walk with Him He forms that patience in us toward each other. In a family this means choosing to consider one another, to not live only to please ourselves, and to extend grace even when we differ or feel hurt. That is how Christian unity is built and preserved.

I pray that the Lord will strengthen your faith and deepen your walk with Him together, so that your home more and more reflects Him. May He help you to abide in His love, to forgive as you have been forgiven, and to clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, with love binding all together in unity.

Father, thank You for Your great love poured out through Jesus Christ. Pour that love anew into this family. Teach them to walk in it, to forgive as they have been forgiven, and to bear with one another in kindness and patience. Let Your presence dwell in their home and let Your love be perfected in them, so that their lives together bear witness to You. In Jesus name, Amen.
