Your prayer for unity and love in your family is precious to the Lord, and He delights to answer prayers that seek to reflect His own heart in the home.

Scripture tells us that God is love in His very nature, and that real love comes from Him. When His life is at work in us, the evidence will be love for one another. That love is not the shallow sentiment that our culture often calls love, and it is not merely physical attraction or even the natural affection we have for family and friends. The love God pours into our hearts is a divine, giving love. It is selfless and sacrificial, the same love that moved Him to give His Son for us when we had nothing to offer in return. It is not that we first loved God, but that He first loved us, and that love now creates a response in us.

Because we have been so loved, we are called to love as we have been loved and to forgive as we have been forgiven. Jesus said to love one another as He has loved us, and that sets the measure. Our standard for forgiving each other in the family is not how much the other person deserves it, but how fully God has forgiven us in Christ. When we remember how much we have been forgiven, it humbles us and frees us to extend grace to one another.

To dwell in that kind of love is to dwell in God, and to have God dwell in us. His love is made complete in us as we walk in it day by day. That is why the Spirit produces love that suffers long and is kind, that is patient, humble, and gentle. It does not insist on its own way, but gives itself for the good of others, just as Christ gave Himself for us as an offering to God.

I pray that God will strengthen your faith and deepen your fellowship with Him, so that His love flows through you to each member of your family. May He help you to walk in that giving love, to be quick to forgive, slow to take offense, and faithful to show kindness and patience even in small things. As you abide in Him, He will bind you together in unity and make your home a reflection of His grace.

Father, thank You for Your uncaused and unquenchable love for us in Jesus Christ. Pour that love anew into this family. Teach them to love as You have loved them and to forgive as You have forgiven them. Fill their home with humility, patience, and kindness, and keep them close to You and to one another. In Jesus name, Amen.
