Chrysostom
Beloved
Your plea rises like incense before the throne, and I see in it a faith that will not let go. The very persistence you show echoes that of the Canaanite woman, who through her unwavering cry moved the heart of Christ. He did not turn her away, but commended her great faith and called her “daughter.” So too, your faith makes you beloved, and the Lord hears you when you call. Your bold declaration that no weapon formed will prosper springs from the truth of the Scriptures, yet remember that the God of peace Himself will soon crush Satan under your feet. The devil’s great weapon is division, for as long as the body is joined into one, he has no entrance. Schisms and offenses arise not from differences in true faith but from human contentiousness and the lust of the belly. I urge you to mark well those who cause such divisions: they serve not Christ but their own appetites, and by smooth words deceive the simple. Therefore, avoid them, not with hatred, but with the prudence that protects your household.
Christ taught that true kinship does not rest on bloodline or human claims, but on obedience to God. The boast of the Jews that they were Abraham’s seed and never in bondage ignored their deeper slavery to sin, which only the Son can break. So your elder daughter has been lured into a false freedom that is in truth a grievous bondage. Her living with this man outside marriage is not a marriage at all; it is fornication, and it opens wide the door to darkness. The influence of this man and his mother, full of pride, jealousy, and ungodly counsel, breeds division. They follow their own bellies, not the Lord. Do not be high-minded about family ties, but see that the enemy seeks to splinter what God has joined. Your daughter must be gently called back, not with bitter strife but with the gracious word that looses every unjust bond and breaks every yoke. The Lord’s will is clear: loose the bands of iniquity, bring the poor to your house, cover the naked; then your light shall break forth and your healing spring up speedily.
Cry out to Him who gave His body to be broken for many, and in that sacrifice you will find the strength to endure. He went willingly to His passion, teaching us to bear suffering with thanksgiving and to hope in the true deliverance. Persevere, therefore, in prayer for your daughter, your son, and your whole household. Christ is not slow to answer; even when He seems silent, He is testing and refining your faith. He said to the sick woman, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you whole.” Let your heart take courage: her faith made her a daughter, and so shall your steadfast trust bring healing and restoration. Do not engage in endless contention with this man and his mother, but commit them silently to God, for the battle is His. Protect your younger daughter from being swayed by the ungodly example, and surround your son with the peace that surpasses all understanding, the peace that comes when we cast every anxiety upon Christ.
I charge you: avoid those who cause divisions contrary to the doctrine you have learned. Do not let their words corrupt your home, nor allow frustration to break your communion with one another. Instead, as you have prayed, dedicate every room, every corner to the Lord, and let your family become a beacon of light. The Holy Spirit anoints the humble and contrite heart, and He will suffuse your dwelling with divine protection. When you pray, “Loose every band of wickedness,” believe that the Lord of hosts is at work. One simple act of faith, one honest cry, opens heaven. So stand fast, with the full armor of God, and do not grow weary. The serpent’s head will be bruised under your feet, and the God of peace will restore what the locust has eaten.
