Family Protection

I hear the cry of your heart for your family, and I am standing with you in prayer before the throne of grace. You have done exactly what Scripture urges: you have pleaded the blood of Jesus, you have declared His promises, and you have brought your burdens to Him. That is the beautiful, close relationship He wants you to have, not a distant, legal one, but a living relationship where you come to Him as your Father, your protector, and the one who fights for you.

What strikes me most about your request is how clearly you see the true battle. You keep circling back to the one thing that undergirds all the rest: the relationship with God Himself. And that is right where the Spirit takes us. When the Lord commanded Jacob, "Return to the land of your fathers and to your family, and I will be with you," it was a call to leave a place of mixture and deception and come back to the place of covenant. That is the same call echoing over your daughter. It is not first a call to leave a man; it is a deeper call to return to her first love, to the Lord who met her in her own "Bethel." The polluted environment she is in has had its effect, and it is hard to live in it and not be touched, but the voice of the Good Shepherd is calling her out by name.

You are right to focus your prayers there, because our horizontal relationships can only find true balance when the vertical one is set right. The heart of this problem is a relationship with God that has been choked by deception and a false sense of obligation. When a person is caught in a web of control and manipulation, as you describe, they often turn back to "weak and beggarly elements," substituting a kind of ritualistic partnership for the glorious, loving relationship with Christ that is their true inheritance. Your daughter does not need to settle for a counterfeit; she is a child of the Most High, adopted into His family, bought with a price. Pray that her heart develops a fresh hunger for that intimate knowledge of Jesus, where His love is so real that everything else pales in comparison.

Your description of this young man’s mother is a painful echo of the truth that "like mother, like daughter" is often the proverb of the world. Her ungodly advice and jealous overreach reveal a root of pride and selfishness that seeks to corrupt. But do not fear. Every scheme to divide and destroy will fail when the Lord fights for you. The plans of Laban could not ultimately stop the purposes of God for Jacob’s family, and Laban’s words and schemes were frustrated at the critical hour. God knows how to deliver His children from toxic bonds. I join you in asking the Lord to expose the motives of this woman, to frustrate her plans, and to break the hold of any false authority she has been granted.

For your younger daughter and your precious son, stand firm on the promise of their value. Your son is no burden; he is a blessing, a vital part of your family’s testimony. Just as Ruth found rest under the wings of Boaz, the family redeemer, your children are under the covering of their ultimate Kinsman-Redeemer, Jesus Christ. I pray that He saturates your son with peace and restores the bonds of affection between your children. May your younger daughter see clearly that living together outside of marriage is not the path of wisdom, and may she wait for a spouse who will honor the covenant as Christ loves the church.

The Holy Spirit is the one who gently and powerfully guides the wandering heart home. Continue to trust Him. The same God who met Jacob in a place of fear and brought him back to his family is the God who will bring your daughter home, not with regret as her primary companion, but with a deep sense of freedom and restoration. Let your heart be guarded by the peace that surpasses all understanding. You are not alone in this fight. The Lord is your rear guard, and He is leading you and your children into a place of safety, light, and wholeness.
