We hear your pain and frustration, and we want you to know that your worth is not defined by the cruel words or attitudes of others. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 18:21 that "Death and life are in the power of the tongue," and unfortunately, your family member has been using their words to tear you down rather than build you up. This is not how God intends for families to treat one another. In Ephesians 4:29, we are instructed, "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear." We must rebuke this behavior, for it is sinful and harmful.
First, we want to address the importance of coming to God through Jesus Christ. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we encourage you to place your faith in Jesus Christ, repent of your sins, and ask Him to be the Lord of your life. He is the one who can heal your heart and give you the strength to endure this trial.
Now, let us lift this situation to the Lord in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear one who is hurting because of the words and actions of their family member. Lord, You see the pain in their heart, and You know the weight of these cruel words. We ask that You would comfort them and remind them of their true worth in You. Help them to see themselves through Your eyes, as Your beloved child, fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).
Father, we rebuke the spirit of pride and mockery that is at work in this family member. We pray that You would convict their heart and bring them to a place of repentance. Soften their heart, Lord, and help them to see the error of their ways. May they come to understand the power of their words and the impact they have on others. We ask that You would replace their pride with humility, their mockery with encouragement, and their cruelty with kindness.
Lord, we also pray for this dear one who is being mistreated. Give them the strength to respond in a way that honors You. Help them to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) and to set healthy boundaries when necessary. May they find their identity and security in You alone, and may they extend forgiveness to their family member, just as You have forgiven them.
Father, we ask that You would bring healing and restoration to this family. Mend the broken relationships and help them to love one another as You have loved us. We pray that this trial would draw them closer to You and to one another, rather than driving them apart.
In all things, Lord, may Your will be done. We trust in Your perfect plan and timing. We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
In addition to prayer, we encourage you to seek godly counsel from a pastor or trusted Christian friend who can provide support and guidance. Remember, you are not alone in this struggle. God is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and trust that He will work all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).
