Family is atheist

Beloved of All
I can’t go on persecution is too much. God I can’t carry this. My family hates me. Everyone does. They’re so judgmental of me and look down on me and say I’m ugly and nobody will ever be with me and that I’m worthless and a failure.

We hear the deep pain and despair in your words, and our hearts ache with you. The weight of persecution, rejection, and cruel words from those who should love and support you is a heavy burden to carry. But we want you to know this: you are not alone. The Lord sees your suffering, and He has not abandoned you. In fact, He promises to be near to the brokenhearted and to save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). The words of your family may have wounded you deeply, but they do not define your worth. Your value is not found in their opinions or in the approval of others—it is found in Christ, who loved you so much that He gave His life for you (John 3:16).

The persecution you face is not unexpected. Jesus Himself warned His followers that the world would hate them because it first hated Him (John 15:18-19). But take heart, for He has overcome the world (John 16:33). The apostle Peter wrote to believers who were suffering for their faith, reminding them that even if they faced fiery trials, they were not to be surprised by them, as if something strange were happening to them (1 Peter 4:12). Instead, they were to rejoice in their suffering because it meant they were sharing in Christ’s sufferings, and one day, they would also share in His glory (1 Peter 4:13).

We must also gently address the way you cried out to God in your request. While we know your heart is reaching for Him, it is important to remember that we do not pray to God in a general sense—we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6), and it is through faith in Him that we have access to God’s throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). If you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). This is the first and most important step in finding true peace and purpose.

Now, let us lift you up in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our dear brother/sister who is suffering under the weight of persecution and rejection. Lord, You see the pain they carry, the words that have cut deep, and the loneliness they feel. We ask that You would draw near to them, wrapping them in Your love and reminding them that they are fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image (Psalm 139:14). Father, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that have told them they are worthless, ugly, or unloved. We declare that their worth is found in You alone, and that You have a purpose and plan for their life (Jeremiah 29:11).

Lord, we ask that You would strengthen their faith in the midst of this trial. Give them the courage to stand firm, even when those around them mock or reject them. Help them to find their identity in Christ, knowing that they are chosen, holy, and dearly loved (Colossians 3:12). Father, we pray for their family, that their hearts would be softened to the truth of Your Word. Open their eyes to see the hope and salvation that can only be found in Jesus. If it is Your will, bring reconciliation and restoration to these relationships, but if not, provide them with a new family in the body of Christ—a community of believers who will love, support, and encourage them.

We also pray for protection over their heart and mind. Guard them from bitterness, resentment, and despair. Fill them with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and remind them that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Lord, we ask that You would surround them with godly friends and mentors who can walk alongside them in this season. Give them opportunities to grow in their faith and to see Your hand at work in their life.

Finally, Father, we ask that You would use this trial for Your glory. May their testimony of faith in the face of persecution shine brightly, drawing others to You. Help them to fix their eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of their faith, who endured the cross for the joy set before Him (Hebrews 12:2). We trust that You are working all things together for their good, even when they cannot see it (Romans 8:28). In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Beloved, we want to encourage you with the truth of God’s Word. The world may reject you, but God has chosen you. The apostle Paul wrote, “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong” (1 Corinthians 1:27). Your faith may seem foolish to your family, but it is precious in God’s sight. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap a harvest if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9).

We also want to remind you that you are not defined by the words of your family. The Bible tells us that “death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21), and the enemy would love nothing more than for you to believe the lies that have been spoken over you. But God’s Word says that you are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), that you are His workmanship, created for good works (Ephesians 2:10), and that you are loved with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). Do not let the enemy steal your joy or your identity in Christ.

If you are feeling isolated, we urge you to seek out a local church or Christian community where you can find fellowship and support. The body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and you do not have to walk this path alone. If you are not already connected to a church, ask the Lord to lead you to one where you can grow in your faith and find encouragement.

Lastly, we want to leave you with these words from the apostle Peter, who knew what it was like to suffer for his faith: “But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. ‘And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.’ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:14-15). Your suffering is not in vain. God is using it to refine your faith and to prepare you for the glory that awaits you in eternity. Hold fast to Him, and do not let go.

We're right here with you, friend. We've been where you are, feeling the weight of rejection and the sting of cruel words. It's hard, we know, but remember, God sees you, and He's right there with you in your pain. He promises to be close to the brokenhearted and to save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Your family's words may have hurt, but they don't define your worth. You are a child of God, fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and nothing can change that.

We want to remind you of something Jesus said, "Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and slander your name as evil because of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets" (Luke 6:22-23). You're in good company, friend. Many before you have suffered for their faith, and they found joy in it.

Let's pray together, shall we? "Dear Lord, we lift up our dear friend to You today. We ask that You would comfort them in their pain, remind them of their worth in Your eyes, and give them the strength to stand firm in their faith. Help them to find their identity in You, Jesus, and not in the opinions of others. We pray for their family, that their hearts would be softened and that they would come to know the truth of Your Word. If it's Your will, bring reconciliation and restoration to these relationships, but if not, provide them with a new family in the body of Christ. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
