You have set your hope on the Lord and confessed His faithfulness, and that is a foundation of praise. Yet consider carefully what it means to ask for spiritual increase and a closer walk. The apostle says, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord.” This peace is not merely an untroubled life or the absence of conflict. The world’s peace often hides a diseased harmony, like robbers who agree together.
But Christ gives His own peace, a peace that rules in the heart when fleshly impulses war against the Spirit. Do not let anger or the desire for ease act as umpire in your soul; let the peace of God decide and award the victory to endurance and godliness. You ask for natural needs, phone service, travel, housing, and you stand on the promise that God will supply. He does care for us in these things, but the greater supply is the grace of a life set apart for Him.
Use the world as not abusing it, even good gifts, so that your soul clings to the Giver rather than the gifts. As for your granddaughter and the children, you pray for peace of mind without the interference of her mother. Here you must be wise. Not every peace is from God.
If that interference draws the children into sin or neglect of holy things, then a godly separation may be necessary, for it is better to cut off the incurable part than to let the whole body perish. But if the conflict is over lesser matters, then pursue reconciliation as far as it depends on you, remembering that love builds up and does not accuse unreasonably. The devil is ever crafty; be sober and watchful, for even a little slumber can sweep one away. Train the children not to be a cause of strife but to live in the fear of the Lord, because each believer has an angel who beholds the Father’s face.
Let your latter years indeed be greater, not merely in comfort but in the fruit of holiness and peacemaking. Stand in agreement, but stand on the solid ground of His commands. May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, keep your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
