Exhausted and seeking direction after career setbacks

Please pray for me. I am feeling completely exhausted and discouraged after a series of painful career setbacks. I recently had a job offer rescinded at the last minute due to budget changes, and I just received a rejection email for a separate interview process that took three full months. Right now, I am simply out of words and do not even know what to ask for anymore. Please pray that God protects my mind and heart while I wait, grants me peace in this anxiety, and provides the strength to keep going when I feel completely depleted. I ask that He opens the right door—one that is stable, secure, and clear—and brings a breakthrough soon.

We join with you in this season of exhaustion and discouragement and we lift you up before the Father together. We know how heavy it feels to have doors close so painfully, a rescinded offer after you had already set your hope on it and then a three month process ending in rejection. It is understandable that you are out of words and depleted, and we want you to know that God sees you in this waiting and He has not forgotten you.

We are reminded of His promise to give rest to the weary. Jesus says Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. He also promises strength when we have none left. He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall but those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:29-31. When your heart is overwhelmed, He will lead you to the rock that is higher than you. Psalm 61:2. And we cling to His good plans for you, for I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who is exhausted and discouraged. Lord, You see every disappointment and every tear and every anxious thought. We ask that You guard this heart and mind with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. Grant rest for this weary soul, renew strength day by day, and sustain through this waiting. Open the right door that is stable and secure and clear, according to Your perfect will, and bring a breakthrough in Your perfect timing. Protect from discouragement and from the lies of the enemy that would say You have abandoned them. Help to wait with hope and to keep going even when depleted, trusting that You are working even now behind the scenes. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus.

We want to gently encourage you as we noticed your request spoke of God but did not mention Jesus Christ. We want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name. When we pray in Jesus name, we come with confidence that He hears us and intercedes for us.

We encourage you to keep bringing even your wordless sighs to Him, for the Spirit intercedes when we have no words. Rest as you are able, stay rooted in the Word, and let fellow believers support you in this wait. God is not closing these doors to harm you but to lead you to the one He has prepared. We will continue to stand with you for peace in the anxiety, strength for each day, and for that clear and stable provision to come forth soon.

We hear how heavy these past months have been for you, and how depleted you feel after holding hope through so much waiting. A rescinded offer at the last minute and then a no after three months of interviews would leave anyone wrung out and out of words. It makes sense that anxiety is loud right now and that you are asking God to guard your mind and heart while you wait.

One thing we have seen help when work has taken such a toll is to gently separate what has actually happened from what fear says will happen next. You named two real, painful losses. The worry about never finding something stable and secure is understandable too, but it is a different kind of burden. Naming those separately, even quietly on paper, can keep the waiting from feeling like one endless weight, and sharing that honest list with one trusted person, a mentor, former colleague, or pastor who knows your field, can bring a little perspective and steady company while you discern next steps.

You do not have to figure the whole future out today. A simple daily rhythm and one small next connection are enough for now.

Father, we lift our brother to You in this exhausting wait. Guard his mind and heart, grant him Your peace when anxiety rises, and renew his strength day by day. Give him wisdom for each next step and, in Your time, open a door that is clear and stable. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

Your request has been heard and we have brought it before the Lord with a tender concern for you in this season of exhaustion and discouragement. To have a door closed at the last moment after hope had been raised, and then to wait three long months only to receive another rejection, is enough to leave any heart depleted and out of words. Yet even when you have no words, the Spirit Himself makes intercession, and the Lord knows the weight you carry.

We pray that God will keep your mind and heart in that perfect peace which is promised to the mind that is stayed upon Him, because it trusts in Him. This is not a peace that comes from circumstances becoming calm, but a peace that whispers within even when sorrows are surging round, through the blood of Jesus who has made full atonement and is Himself our peace. The very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty, but waiting upon the Lord breeds peace within the soul, and when a man is perfectly at rest within, he cares little for trials or foes. May the Lord, who is the God of all peace, bless you with His own peace, that peace which passes all understanding and which Christ Himself gives, not as the world gives.

We also pray that you may be strengthened to wait bravely upon the Lord. Scripture tells us that the Lord waits that He may be gracious unto us, and blessed are all they that wait for Him. His waiting is not forgetfulness but love preparing the right moment to show mercy. You are waiting in hope, not in despair, for direction in the entire voyage of life, as a traveler waits upon his guide and a mariner upon his pilot. Waiting upon God makes the world and all its affairs grow small until we see their real littleness, and it teaches us to know what our Master wishes us to do. May He renew your courage as you wait, for they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.

And now we pray together for you, that the Father would guard your mind and heart in Christ Jesus while you wait, grant you quietness from anxious thought, and give you daily strength to keep going when you feel depleted. We ask that in His wisdom and kindness He would open the right door in His perfect time, a stable and clear provision where you may labor faithfully to do the will of Jesus and find rest, and that He would bring a breakthrough according to His good will. Above all we ask that you may find your peace not first in an answer, but in Christ Himself, for when you seek Him first, peace will follow as a river flowing from the very throne of God.

May the Lord keep you, sustain you day by day, and cause you to go in peace, hearing His voice call you onward until earthly struggles cease and He calls you to Heaven's perfect peace.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
