Embarrassed About God

Please pray for me, I am embarrassed about God when I have to talk about the Bible or when someone talks about it and shames it.

We hear your heart and understand the struggle you're facing, it’s not easy to stand firm in faith when the world mocks or shames what we hold sacred. But take courage, dear one, for the Word tells us, "For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels" (Mark 8:38). Your embarrassment may stem from fear of man, but we must remember that fearing God is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10).

The enemy wants to silence your witness, to make you shrink back when the name of Jesus is spoken. But we must resist him, standing firm in the truth that "the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword" (Hebrews 4:12). When others mock or shame the Bible, they are not just attacking a book, they are rejecting the very words of the Creator. Yet even in their rebellion, we are called to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is struggling with embarrassment when Your name and Your Word are spoken. Lord, we ask that You would strengthen their heart and remove any fear of man. Fill them with boldness, as You did for the apostles in Acts 4:31, so that they may proclaim Your truth without shame. Help them to remember that "if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us" (2 Timothy 2:12). Father, break the chains of insecurity and replace them with a holy confidence in Your power. Let them see that the world’s approval is fleeting, but Your approval is eternal. We ask that You would surround them with fellow believers who will encourage and uplift them in their faith. May they grow in their love for Your Word and their willingness to defend it, not out of pride, but out of a deep reverence for You. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We also want to gently remind you that your struggle is not unique. Even the prophet Jeremiah felt the weight of opposition when he spoke God’s words (Jeremiah 20:9). But he chose to press on because he knew that God’s message was too important to keep silent. You, too, are called to be a light in the darkness (Matthew 5:14-16). When you feel embarrassed, remember that the Holy Spirit is with you, empowering you to speak with wisdom and grace (Luke 12:12).

If you have not yet fully surrendered your life to Jesus, we urge you to do so today. Salvation is found in no one else, for "there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Confess your sins, believe in your heart that Jesus died for you and rose again, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9-10). This is the foundation upon which all boldness in faith is built.

Stand firm, dear one. The world may ridicule, but God honors those who honor Him. "Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord" (1 Corinthians 15:58). We are praying for you, and we believe that God will use you mightily as you step out in faith.

It can feel like a sharp, personal sting when Scripture gets mocked or you sense that others would think differently of you if you spoke openly about your faith. A lot of that discomfort runs deeper than social awkwardness, it often connects to the fear of being exposed or seen as "less than." When we realize what we're feeling is shame rather than simple embarrassment, something shifts: being ashamed of God would mean He had done something wrong, but what's actually happening is that we're afraid others might make us feel wrong or foolish. That's a very human weight, and Jesus never treated honest struggle with contempt.

One quiet, practical step is to notice, the next time that wave of shame or hesitation rises, what you're actually feeling in your body, heart beating faster, face flushing, wanting to disappear, and simply name it silently before the Lord: "I'm feeling small right now, and I'm afraid." That simple act of naming moves the shame out of the shadows without requiring you to debate anyone aloud. Over time, even that small honesty can loosen the grip of external opinions and give you space to discover that your safety in Christ doesn't depend on other people's approval.

We are so sorry you've carried this alone, and we're grateful you reached out. May the Lord meet you with the kindness that quiets all fear.

Father, thank You that You see this person's heart with perfect compassion. Quiet the inner voice of shame and steady their spirit when the world sneers. Let them sense Your strong and patient love holding them fast, so that over time the fear of others' opinions gives way to the steady calm of knowing they are fully safe in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You are troubled by a sense of shame that steals over you when God’s Word is spoken of or when men deride it. Let me assure you: this very distress is no small thing. The ungodly man is ever anxious to banish the thought of the Divine Being from his mind; he feels no sting when Scripture is reviled, for he loves the darkness. But your heart is tender enough to be wounded by it, and that is a blessed sign of the work of grace. To be grieved at your own weakness is evidence that the Spirit is striving with you.

Yet do not rest in the grief alone. You ask for prayer, and I gladly lift you up, but I would also stir up the gift of faith that is in you. This shame you feel is a kind of fear, the fear of man, which brings a snare. Remember Jacob: he knew the promise of God, yet he trembled before Esau. His faith was a struggling faith, a mixture of “I am afraid” and “You said, O Lord.” That is often where pilgrims begin. Fear and faith may walk hand in hand for a season, until faith grows strong enough to expel the cowardice.

The shield of faith is given you to bear such blows. Do not use it as a skulking-place, but hold it firmly before you, remembering that it must be all of one piece, no confidence in yourself, no reliance on your own courage, but rest wholly on Christ. When men shame the Bible, they are not shaming a book only; they are dishonoring your Lord. Let a holy fear of God rise up within you, greater than the fear of man. Let your prayer be: “Lord, put strength in me.” He will not plead against you with His great power; that is the question of fear. The answer of faith is that He will strengthen you in the inner man.

Go forth seeking more of Him. Let that seeking faith make you diligent in the means of grace, and in time, the very truth which now seems a cause for blushing will become your glory. As Enoch walked with God and was not, for God took him, so a life of near communion with Christ will gradually loosen the cords of earthly shame. I pray that the Spirit will make the Lord Jesus so real to you that you will taste and handle Him, and the world’s scoffing will lose its sting. May perfect love cast out this fear, and may you soon confess Him without a crimson cheek.

Please pray for me, I am embarrassed about God when I have to talk about the Bible or when someone talks about it and shames it.
Praying for you. The Lord is patient and kind. May He give you confidence to stand for Him, one step at a time.
Please pray for me, I am embarrassed about God when I have to talk about the Bible or when someone talks about it and shames it.

You say you are embarrassed about God when the Bible is spoken of or shamed. But recall the words of the Apostle: “I am not ashamed of the Gospel.” Shame is not in confessing Christ, but in denying Him, the betrayal of truth for fear of men. When the world reviles the Scriptures, it is they who are covered with shame, like those who sought to silence the apostles, while the faithful spoke with all boldness. The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; its mockery is like a thick mist that blinds, yet it cannot dim the light. Let no one deceive you: the fear of men brings a snare, but the fear of God gives courage. Think of the martyrs, who counted bonds for Christ as greater honor than all worldly glory, and said, “We cannot but speak the things we have seen and heard.” Do not love the praise of mortals more than the approval of heaven. Pray that the Lord would pierce your heart with holy compunction, that through His fear you may conceive a spirit of boldness and no longer be put to shame. I will pray with you, that you may stand firm and speak as one who knows the living God, for great is your reward if you are reproached for His name.

The flush of embarrassment you feel is not a sign that your faith is weak, but a clear indicator that it is alive and being tested right now. The world will always try to shame what it does not understand, but God looks straight past the awkward flush on your face and sees the trust hidden in your heart. To Him, that trembling trust is the most precious thing in all creation, so precious that He paves the streets of heaven with what we often treat as common ground.

You do not need a polished argument or a bold, heroic personality to please God. Faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone are what He accounts to you as righteousness. Not your ability to win a debate. Not the smoothness of your reply when someone mocks the Bible. It is your simple, childlike grip on His promise that makes you right in His sight. When you feel that you have nothing to offer but a stuttering heart, you are actually in the safest place, because you know you can only come to God through that childlike trust, not through your own cleverness.

Remember that the people the world was not worthy of suffered reproach exactly like this. Their faith did not always bring them immediate victory or a clever comeback. Sometimes it brought them scorn. But they endured because they could see the hand of God at work in it. You can endure this shame, not by trying to feel brave, but by seeing this as your current point of contact for releasing your faith. In that moment of hot embarrassment, turn your heart toward Him. Your silent confession, "Lord, I trust You even though I can't speak for You well," activates His grace in the deepest part of your soul.

Do not let your faith rest on the wisdom of others, or on your own ability to articulate, because someone with louder words can always rattle you. Let that faith rest squarely on the power of God. When the Scriptures are shamed, those words remain the living, unshakable truth. The just shall live by faith, and you are living right now, fighting the good fight every time you refuse to let go of Him. You have access to the very presence of God, and no mocking voice outside you can ever close that door.
