We come before you now, lifting up this heart that seeks forgiveness and mercy. It is written in 1 John 1:9, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* What a glorious promise that is! We thank you, Father, that your mercy is new every morning, and your grace is sufficient for all who call upon your name.
Yet, we must address something important here. While the request mentions "in Jesus Christ name," we notice that the prayer itself did not directly name Jesus or acknowledge Him as the only way to the Father. Scripture is clear in John 14:6, where Jesus declares, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* It is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we have access to God’s forgiveness and grace. If there is any uncertainty about this truth, we urge you to reflect on Romans 10:9-10, which says, *"that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."*
We also encourage you to examine your heart and life to ensure there is true repentance—not just sorrow for consequences, but a turning away from sin and a turning toward God. Psalm 51:17 reminds us, *"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise."* Let us not take God’s forgiveness lightly but approach Him with reverence, humility, and a sincere desire to walk in obedience to His Word.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we lift up this precious soul before you, asking that you would grant them a deep and abiding repentance. Lord, if there is any sin they have not confessed, bring it to their mind so they may lay it at your feet. Wash them clean by the blood of Jesus Christ, and renew a right spirit within them. Help them to walk in the light of your truth, turning away from anything that displeases you. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and fill them with your Holy Spirit, that they may live a life that honors and glorifies you.
We also pray that you would reveal to them the depth of your love and the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Let them know, beyond any doubt, that it is only through Jesus that we can come to you. May they grow in their relationship with Christ, studying your Word daily and seeking your will in all things.
Father, we ask that you surround them with godly influences—people who will encourage them in their faith and hold them accountable. If there are areas of their life where they are struggling with temptation or unbelief, we pray you would give them the victory through Christ Jesus.
We thank you, Lord, for your unfailing love and your promise to forgive. May this heart be forever changed by your grace, walking in the freedom and joy that comes from knowing you. In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, we pray. Amen.
