Dreams Even Now, Holy Spirit ️ While Asleep, Job 33:12-17; Matt 2:12, Visions Prophecy, Joel 2:28, Numb 12:6, Acts 16:9...

Father, we come as children in faith, and thank You for faith to believe the hearing of the Word, Rom 10:17, "You are able to save forever those who come to God through Jesus, because He lives to make intercession for us," Heb 7:25, c.f. Rom 8:34. Thank You for speaking in many portions and many ways, Heb 1:1, especially through The Foundational Rock of Your Son, 1 Cor 3:11, Heb 1:2-3, and The Holy Spirit through the Apostles, John 16:12-14, and and giving us ability to understand You and Your Word, Luke 24:45, Eph 1:17.

We ask for believers across the world, that You'd give dreams and counsel, as it is written in Job 33:14, "For God does speak—now one way, now another—though no one perceives it. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people, as they slumber in their beds, 16 He may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, 17 to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, 18 to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword."

Again, as with the affairs concerning our father, Abraham, even to those outside the covenants of God, Gen 20:3, like him we are fully persuaded You are able to fulfill what You promise, Rom 4:21. Pour out Your Holy Spirit on her, him, me, us, them, all flesh, as prophesied in in Joel 2:28, “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old will dream dreams, your youth will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, BOTH men AND women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days," Joel 2:28-29, c.f. Acts 2:17-18. Father, with humble confidence, give her, them, us dreams and visions underlining your will for us in Christ Jesus, as You have done from ancient times on those saved, Matt 1:20, Matt 2:12, and unsaved alike, Gen 20:3, Gen 31:24, Dan 2:1, Dan 4:5, until present, Acts 19:6, and You will continue to though the future, Heb 13:8. Your arm is not too short, Num 11:23, especially to save, Isa 50:2, Isa 59:1. You have Genesis 1 on Your C.V....

We join you in this childlike faith and we thank you for bringing this prayer before the Father so beautifully in the name of Jesus, through whom we have access to God and who indeed lives to make intercession for us.

We love your hunger to hear from God and your confidence that He is still able to speak, for nothing is impossible with God and no purpose of His can be thwarted. You have cited well that God has spoken in many portions and in many ways, and we agree with the witness of Scripture that He has done so through dreams and visions.

For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed, then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, that he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. Job 33:14-17. And He said, Hear now my words. If there is a prophet among you, I Yahweh will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak with him in a dream. Num 12:6. We also remember how Joseph was warned in a dream as in Matt 2:12, and how Paul saw a vision in the night calling him to Macedonia in Acts 16:9, and how even those outside the covenant were warned by God in dreams as with Abimelech in Gen 20:3 and Laban in Gen 31:24.

We also rejoice in the promise, It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. Joel 2:28, which Peter declared was being fulfilled at Pentecost, It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17.

Yet we want to gently encourage you with the balance of the whole counsel of God. We are told, God, having in the past spoken to the fathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, has at the end of these days spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds. Heb 1:1-2. The Son is the foundational Rock and the final Word, and the Holy Spirit now speaks through the apostles' teaching and illumines the Scriptures to us, as Jesus promised the Spirit of truth will guide you into all truth. John 16:13, and He opened their minds, that they might understand the Scriptures. Luke 24:45. Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3:16-17.

So while we fully believe God is able to give dreams and visions even now, for Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Heb 13:8, and His arm is not too short to save. Isa 59:1, we also know we must test every dream and vision against the sure Word of God and not chase experience above Scripture. Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1, and Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good. 1 Thess 5:21. The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream, and he who has my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat, says Yahweh. Jer 23:28. A true dream from God will never contradict His written Word, will turn us from wrongdoing and pride, and will preserve us from the pit as Job 33:17-18 says, and will always exalt Christ.

We pray together with you now.

Father, we come to You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, thanking You that You are able to save forever those who come to God through Him. We thank You that You have spoken most clearly through Your Son and by Your Spirit through the apostles, and that You have given us Your Word and understanding by Your Spirit. We ask together for believers across the world, pour out Your Spirit upon us afresh. If it pleases You, give dreams and visions that underline Your will for us in Christ Jesus, that turn us from wrongdoing, keep us from pride, and preserve us from the pit. Give us ears to hear and hearts to perceive what You are saying.

Grant us deep discernment to test all things by Scripture, to hold fast to what is good and to reject every lie, deception, fear, and scheme of the evil one. Keep us from temptation and deliver us from evil, lead us not into deception but establish us in truth, for Your Word is truth. Help us to walk humbly, to pray without ceasing, and to believe that You hear us when we ask according to Your will. We thank You in advance by faith, trusting that You hear us. We ask all this in the mighty and faithful name of Jesus, our intercessor and amen, in whom all the promises of God are Yes. Amen.

We are grateful for your prayer for believers around the world and for your desire to see God near and guiding His people, even in the night. That longing honors Him.

We share your confidence that the Holy Spirit is alive and present as our Helper and Counselor, and that He delights to lead us into truth and form Christlike character in us. In our experience that leading often comes quietly, through His Word, through prayer, and through the wisdom He gives in community, and at times He brings a strong impression or picture that stays with us after sleep. When that happens we have found it helps to hold it lightly before the Lord, test it against what we know of Scripture, and invite a couple of mature believers to weigh it with us, since the Spirit never pulls against His own truth and His fruit is love, peace and patience.

If you or someone you love senses a dream may carry guidance, bringing it to the Lord honestly, asking for clarity, and seeking counsel together can keep you both open and grounded while you wait for His direction.

Father, thank You for drawing near to Your children and for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. Give wisdom and quiet confidence to all who are seeking You, guard them from confusion and fear, and make Your will clear in Your perfect way and timing. Lead us deeper into knowing Jesus and trusting Your Word. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer breathes a sincere desire to know the Lord and to be kept from evil, and for this we give thanks to God. It is well to remember with you that He is able to save forever those who come to God through Jesus, because He lives to make intercession for us, and that faith comes by hearing the Word. That foundation you have named is the true rock, Jesus Christ the Son, in whom God has spoken at last most clearly, though in times past He spoke in many portions and many ways.

You ask concerning dreams and visions, and whether the Holy Spirit speaks in the night as in Job and Joel and Numbers and Acts. Hear what the Spirit Himself teaches concerning His own work. Our Lord Jesus said of Him, He will receive of Mine and show it to you. The whole office of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Christ. He deals with the things of Christ. When we are dealing with the things of Christ, we are on Holy Spirit ground and following the track of the Spirit. He does not lead us gadding about after trifles, nor to magnify outward signs for their own sake, but to reveal the Savior to the soul. That teaching is not of the Holy Spirit which does not glorify the Lord Jesus.

Therefore while we do not limit the arm of the Lord, for His arm is not shortened that it cannot save, and He may warn a soul even as He warned Abimelech or Nebuchadnezzar, yet our confidence and our prayer must be for that which is His constant and gracious work in His people. The Holy Spirit is the Author of all spiritual life. Until He visits us we are dead in trespasses and sins. No man can become holy except by the Spirit of Holiness, no man can truly pray without His help, and no man can know the things of Christ except the Spirit reveal them. A holy man is the workmanship of the Holy Spirit.

For this reason the question presses upon each of us, Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed. It is not a thing to be guessed at. As one knows an electric shock, much more does a soul know when the Holy Spirit has quickened and sealed him. He makes His palace in the narrow heart of man, though it be but a cottage unholy and unclean, and He condescends to make it His continual abode. This is God's seal upon us that we are His children. And because He so loves us, we are entreated, Grieve not the Holy Spirit. He is grieved by unbelief, by unholiness of life, by walking not according to the Gospel, and by our neglect of Him. Many live as if they had not so much as heard whether there is any Holy Spirit, and from many sermons you would not know there is one. Oh that the Church would recognize His power and depend upon Him entirely, for without Him there is no life and force and power.

You ask rightly to be kept from temptation, from evil, from deception and from the evil one. That keeping is His work also. But the way to be kept is to be found praying in the Holy Spirit. Every acceptable prayer must be in the Holy Spirit, by His power and through His help. The carnal mind knows nothing of this, but the Spirit is willing to help our infirmities and to teach us how to pray. There is no rubric except this, in the Holy Spirit. That granted, nothing else matters one whit. Cry then mightily unto God for His Spirit, for you can do nothing without Him.

And hear how the Holy Spirit speaks now. Therefore as the Holy Spirit says, Today if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts. It is His unvarying utterance still. He says Today. He bids us make haste and delay not to keep the commands of God and to seek the salvation of men. If you would hear Him, hear Him in the Word which He inspired and which He opens to the understanding, for He first awakens the mental powers and then gives light to see Christ therein.

So our prayer for you and for believers across the world is not that we should chase dreams for their own sake, but that the Holy Spirit Himself would be poured out upon us and dwell in us as the source and force of our life, that He would take of Christ and show Him to us, that He would seal our faith, teach us the Word, keep us from pride and from the pit, and make us holy. May He grant you to understand the Scriptures, to behold Christ and to be kept from all evil, and to know assuredly that you are His.

We entreat the Lord for you, that you may not grieve the Holy Spirit but yield to Him, confide in Him and adore Him, that you may pray in Him and walk in holiness, and that hearing His voice today you may follow the Lord Jesus with a whole heart, trusting in His intercession and rejoicing in His salvation. May the Father glorify the Son, and the Son glorify the Father, and the Holy Spirit glorify Christ in you, until faith becomes sight. Amen.

We join you in thanking God for the great assurance you have named, that Jesus lives to make intercession for us and is able to save forever those who come to God through Him, and that God has spoken most fully in these last days through His Son, the foundation and rock, and by the Holy Spirit through the apostles, opening our minds to understand the Scriptures.

Your desire that God would keep His people, turn them from wrongdoing, keep them from pride and preserve them from the pit is good and biblical, and that is indeed the purpose named in Job when it says God speaks in one way and then another, in a dream in the night to warn and to turn a person from wrong. We also remember with you that in former days God did speak in dreams to many, to Abimelech and to Jacob and to Joseph and to others, and that the prophet Joel foretold that God would pour out His Spirit on all flesh, sons and daughters prophesying and old men dreaming dreams and young men seeing visions, a promise Peter declared was fulfilled when the Spirit came upon the hundred and twenty at Pentecost with fire and with tongues, not upon the twelve only.

That fulfillment teaches us something important for today. Before the cross the Spirit had been withheld and prophecy had grown scarce, but after the enmity was put away and sin was loosed through the cross, the Spirit was shed abundantly as an earnest of our inheritance. This gift was given that we might know Christ, receive adoption, have power to be witnesses to the ends of the earth, and understand the heavenly things. The Lord Jesus Himself said the Spirit would not speak on His own but would glorify Christ and guide into all truth, and the apostles show us that the Spirit now works chiefly by illuminating the Word already given and forming Christ in us.

For this reason we do not teach people to seek dreams or visions as a regular way of guidance or to ask for new revelations beyond Scripture. God is able to do all things and nothing is impossible with Him, and His arm is not shortened that it cannot save, yet He has chosen to speak with final clarity through His Son and through the apostolic testimony preserved for us in Scripture. Dreams and impressions, if they occur, must be tested by that Word, and they are never to be placed alongside it or above it. Many have been deceived by seeking signs, and Scripture warns us to be watchful against deception, temptation and the schemes of the evil one.

So we pray with you according to the Word. We ask the Father to give to believers across the world the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, to open the eyes of their hearts, to keep them from temptation, from evil, from falsehood and from pride, to turn them from wrongdoing and to establish them in holiness through faith in Christ alone. We ask that where God in His sovereignty does warn or counsel or comfort in the night, it would serve to humble the heart, to turn from sin and to cling more firmly to Christ and His Word, and that all His people would grow in hearing the Word with faith and obeying it.

We thank God in advance that He hears those who come through Jesus, and we ask these things not because dreams make us spiritual, but because Christ has made us His own by His blood and the Spirit dwells in us as a pledge until the inheritance is complete. May the Lord keep you and all who pray with you from the evil one, guard you in truth, and make you steadfast in the Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
