We're glad to join you in lifting up this home project. It is a small matter, yet the lifting of the heart to God over it is no small thing. A device to watch the threshold, this is your present care, and you would have the Lord smile upon the setting of it. He who numbers the stars and calls them all by name is not unmindful of the pins and nails of your dwelling. Indeed, the Lord Jesus, in His own Home Mission, went about doing good, not despising the daily needs of those among whom He moved. Let that hand which found a coin to pay the temple tax guide the wires and the screws, and let all be done as under His eye.
Yet this fixing of a camera to watch over your door should preach a sermon to your own soul. You are anxious for the safety of your home, and rightly so. But think what a dreadful thing it would be to fall, and how constantly we need to cry to God to keep us from falling. A bolt and a lens cannot secure the soul. There is a safety of quite another sort, a keeping that neither thief nor rust can touch. He that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, He is your true Keeper. While you set a watch upon your door, set your faith anew upon Him, for there lies your safety, together with Him. If you could get away from Him, you would go down to destruction.
And let this care for a thing merely temporal stir you up to begin at home in higher things. You would have your family secure; are they all sheltered in the wounds of Jesus? You would know who comes and goes at your door; do you ever ask who is coming to your family prayers, and whether your own heart enters into that sacred work? It is a grand thing to feel that God’s Throne might sooner fail than a saint can perish, but that comfort is for those who trust in Him. So while you look to the camera to record the faces of visitors, look to Christ to have your name recorded in His book. Tell me, is it well with your soul? That is the home question. If that be settled, then your peace is like a river, and all these smaller things will fall into their proper place.

You seek prayer that your device be installed without trouble, desiring a small measure of security for your home. This is understandable, yet consider the kind of security your soul truly craves. The Gospel does not call us to rest in bolts and beams, nor in the watchful eye of a camera, but in the pasture of the Good Shepherd. For Christ said, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." He did not promise a life free from earthly disturbance, but a soul placed in all security, a calm harbor amidst the storms.
That doorbell camera may warn you of a thief at the porch, but the Devil is a far more dangerous intruder, seeking always to rob you of your patience, your chastity, your peace. Flee from him with the swiftness of repentance, and cling to Christ, so that what you have seized in faith cannot be taken from you. Then, whether the installation goes smoothly or meets with a dozen small frustrations, you will remain in genuine safety, possessing the unspeakable blessings that neither rust nor moth can corrupt. For the true calamity is not a failed gadget, but a soul so in love with this present world and its comforts that it forsakes the fellowship of Christ's sufferings.
When the heart is thus set on the things to come, a thousand cameras do not add to our security, and the lack of one cannot diminish it. May you so live that your house becomes a school of self-command, an imitation of angelic life, where the peace of Christ alone guards the door.
