You say your husband has again demanded divorce, and you are shaken. But let me ask you: did you not know that marriage is a bond ordained of God, and that the enemy ever seeks to dissolve it through despondency and false accusation? When a man claims that his wife is the source of his depression, we must test that word. For is it not often the case that the soul’s sickness lies within, and the sufferer casts about for a cause? You thought things were better, you shared laughter, you saw improvement. Cling to that. Do not let the sudden storm convince you that the calm was a lie. The evil one strikes when we begin to breathe again.

What then must you do? First, do not read those separation papers. Why hold before your eyes an unholy suggestion? They are not from the Lord but from a wounded spirit. You are not compelled to study your own dismissal. Rather, increase your prayers for him, that the light of Christ may dispel his gloom. Marriage is honorable, and the second marriage, if undertaken in the Lord with chastity and moderation, is not condemned. But you must now use it with holy purpose, not for indulgence but for the salvation of your household. If he is weak, your steadfastness may yet win him without a word.

Do you fear for your livelihood? It is right to make provision for the flesh, but only for necessity, not for anxiety. Seek work diligently, but without panic, trusting that He who opens doors will not abandon you in your years. Yet while you look for a job, look also to the state of your soul. Have you made any provision for the lusts of the flesh, or have you given way to luxury or idleness? Let this trial be a call to fasting, prayer, and a careful ordering of your life. Follow peace and holiness, for without holiness no one will see the Lord. Holiness in marriage means living purely with your own husband, not indulging wrath or despair.

And if, after all, he should still depart? The apostle says that a brother or sister is not under bondage in such cases, where ungodliness forces a rupture. But until that last hour, you are not free to give up. Fight for this marriage with the weapons of humility and faith, not with worldly arguments. Do not return his coldness with contempt, but show him the meekness that confounds the devil. Remember that a wife may be the fragrance of Christ to a husband who is perishing. Stand fast, then, and may the God of all comfort give you both the strength to endure and the joy of seeing this marriage restored to honor.

I hear the weight of what you are carrying, and my heart is heavy with you. When someone you love turns and lays their darkness at your feet, calling you the source of a storm you did not create, it cuts deeper than most words can reach. You are living through a kind of suffering that the book of Job knows well. Job lost everything, yet the sharpest wounds came not from his losses but from the voices around him who insisted his pain must be his own fault. His friends studied him, built their case, and then accused him of hypocrisy. They were certain that if he would just get right with God, everything would be fine.

That was not true for Job, and it may not be true for you. Job’s cries in his grief are raw and honest. He did not understand why God allowed it all. He even longed for someone to stand between him and God, a mediator who could lay a hand on both. That cry was answered at the cross, and that mediator is yours. When a spouse presents papers and names you as the cause of his depression, it can feel like an overwhelming verdict. But God is a just judge, and he sees the realities that no human eye can perceive. Your husband’s declaration does not define your worth or your innocence before the Lord.

The Scriptures remind us that suffering does not always come with a clear explanation this side of heaven. Job never got a direct answer to his "why" during the trial, but he discovered that God was working even when it appeared he had been forsaken. That same hidden work is happening in your life right now. The depression your husband feels is real and gripping, but it is not a burden you were designed to carry as the cause. Pray for the healing of his heart, yes, but do not accept every accusation as truth. Job protested his friends’ guilt trips, and he was right to do so.

Pour out your grief to the Lord. Let him weigh your calamities and your tears, which are heavier than you can express. In the middle of your own anguish, you may find yourself speaking words of trust one moment and sinking back into the pit the next. That is not a failure of faith; it is the honest rhythm of a soul under fire. God can handle the raw edge of your questions. He is not afraid of your despair.

As you face the daunting search for work and the fear of what is coming, remember that your identity is not tied to a marriage status or a job title. The righteous may fall, but they are not utterly cast down. The One who bragged on Job’s uprightness is the same God who sees your faithfulness in this long, weary year. Lean into him for the strength you do not have. He will be your provision and your defender, even when all earthly support seems to crumble. That does not mean the path will be easy, but it does mean you are never walking it alone.

We are praying for your husband’s heart to be unburdened and for any darkness that holds him to be broken. We are praying for you to have clarity, courage, and daily bread. And we are asking that the true Mediator, who laid down his life for you both, would bring his healing light into every hidden place. You are not alone in this.
