We hear your heart, dear sister, and we stand with you in seeking the Lord’s perfect will for your life. It is wise and godly to pause and ask the Father for confirmation when making such a significant decision, especially one as sacred as marriage. The disturbance in your mind may very well be the Holy Spirit prompting you to seek Him more deeply before moving forward.
First, we must address the foundation of all decisions—our relationship with Jesus Christ. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father, and it is in His name alone that we pray and seek guidance. Jesus said in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."* If you have not already, we encourage you to surrender your life fully to Christ, for He is the only one who can direct your steps in perfect wisdom. If you have already placed your faith in Him, we rejoice with you and pray that you continue to grow in intimacy with Him, for He is the source of all peace and clarity.
Now, regarding the proposal before you, we want to encourage you to seek the Lord with a heart of humility and obedience. Marriage is a holy covenant, designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). It is not merely a union between two people but a sacred bond that should honor God in every way. Proverbs 19:14 tells us, *"House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh."* This reminds us that a godly spouse is a gift from the Lord, and we must seek His will above all else.
We also want to gently remind you that marriage is a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman, as God designed from the beginning (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). It is not something to be entered into lightly or without the full assurance that this is the person God has prepared for you. If there is any hesitation in your spirit, do not ignore it. The Lord often speaks in that still, small voice, and we must be attentive to His leading.
We encourage you to spend time in prayer and fasting, asking the Lord to confirm His will for you. James 1:5 says, *"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."* The Lord delights in giving wisdom to His children, and He will make His will clear if you seek Him with all your heart.
We also want to encourage you to seek counsel from godly mentors, pastors, or mature believers in your life. Proverbs 11:14 tells us, *"Where there is no counsel, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."* Surround yourself with those who fear the Lord and who can speak truth into your situation.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear sister to You, asking that You would calm her mind and bring her peace that surpasses all understanding. Lord, we ask that You would reveal Your perfect will to her regarding this proposal. If this is the man You have prepared for her, we pray that You would confirm it in her heart with clarity and assurance. If this is not Your will, we ask that You would close the door gently but firmly and redirect her steps according to Your purpose.
Father, we pray that You would give her wisdom as she seeks You. Help her to discern Your voice above all others and to trust in Your timing. We ask that You would prepare her heart and the heart of this man to honor You in their relationship, should this be Your will. Lord, we pray that their union would be a reflection of Christ and the Church, rooted in love, respect, and mutual submission to You.
We also pray for protection over her mind and emotions. Guard her from doubt, fear, or confusion, and fill her with Your peace. Help her to wait on You and to trust in Your goodness, even when the path is unclear. We declare that she will not lean on her own understanding but will acknowledge You in all her ways, and You will direct her paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of confusion or anxiety that may be trying to cloud her judgment. We speak clarity, peace, and divine direction over her life in Jesus’ name. We ask that You would surround her with godly counsel and that You would speak to her through Your Word and through the Holy Spirit.
Above all, Father, we pray that Your will would be done in her life. May she seek You first in all things, and may her heart be fully surrendered to Your plans and purposes. We thank You for hearing our prayer and for answering according to Your perfect will. In Jesus’ precious name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord diligently. Spend time in His Word, for it is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). Listen for His voice in prayer, and trust that He will guide you. If this proposal is from Him, He will confirm it. If it is not, He will make that clear as well. Either way, you can rest in the knowledge that God’s plans for you are good, and He will lead you into the future He has prepared for you (Jeremiah 29:11).
May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may His face shine upon you as you seek Him with all your heart.
